I want to be able to like coffee, because I heard it gives you a lot of energy and I just loveeeeee the smell. But it has such a bitter taste to it...I don't know what to do!

If you make it really, really hot, and take a big gulp, you won't be able to taste anything.

I drink coffee black now. There are good coffees that aren't all that bitter. You can experiment a little bit to try and find a good tasting coffee.

Most people start drinking coffee with cream and sugar. That may be where you want to start. Buy a rich cream, add a little sugar...then slowly start weaning yourself off.

Some coffees taste very good without all the baggage.

The taste of coffee is something that you will have to acquire. By using freshly ground beans it will give it a better taste. Just experiment a little bit to find the right combination that you like. Personally I drink mine black without sugar. I live in the coffee growing part of the world so I am lucky in this respect.

I used to be like you. here's what i did:

Start with the foofee drinks (like mochas, cappucinos, etc)
once you get used to those, then try flavored coffee with a lot of cream or milk (like french vanilla coffee)

once you get used to that, move on to regular coffee. Some people will tell you to dump a bunch of sugar into the coffee, but I HATE sugar in coffee. I think it makes the coffee taste *wrong* I can't quite explain...I would steer clear of starbucks, they tend to burn their beans when roasting them so the coffee tastes extra bitter

but anyhow, that's what I did. Now I LOVE coffee.

In college, my roomate would drink coffee and stay up and study. I tried, but it tasted awful. So she dumped powdered hot chocolate into a mug and poured hot coffee in instead of water. I loved it. Over time, I used less and less chocolate, then switched to milk and sugar and finally down to just a splash of skim milk. I even enjoy it black occasionally.

In any case, hot chocolate powder or those awesome flavored creams from the grocery store(french vanilla, creme brulee, chai tea flavors, etc.) can really turn anyone into a coffee drinker!

You have to keep drinking it and your body and taste buds will learn to like it. Thats the way it is with any food. If you didn't grow up eating something you probably won't like it so you have to keep eating or drinking it and your taste buds and brin will develope a liking for the flavor. Through evolution it was a natural process that kept humans from eating things that could be dangerous, so only after eating them a couple of times and nothing happening you body would start liking it.

I'm not thinking that you should "make" yourself like coffee at all! But, if you want to try it, alot of folks will put in cream and sugar to cut the bitterness. Or, you could try it in one of those fancy frappicino drinks.

Try using Half & Half in your coffee. It gives it a very rich, creamy, smooth taste.
