anyone can take anyone to small claims court over any amount of money, or just for the hell of it. Most of the time it will cost more than that to get out of the house. That's why most attorneys won't even touch a case like that. BBBBUt !!!!! If you got the money and want to persue some one, it is an easy task except for paying the attorney fees!!!!

The minimum claim in small claims is $500.00 They are trying a bluff and most times the threat of court action works.
The paper work alone to prepare for a $20 claim would be ridiculous.
despite the constitution most claims below 500 are refused by the courts it''s just not worth their time.

check with your state, but I believe so, and the cost is not outrageous. I just paid $15 to file one, and I am in NYS and I am including the return of court costs in my claim, and I will probably get my money back that I am suingfor PLUS ANY court costs included that I had to pay to do this. I got this info from speaking with the town court clerk at the court.

Yes, but the cost to file may be more than that. The only reason would be to teach you a lesson. It certainly wouldn't be for any real gain.
