Take these steps.

1. Try restarting the computer.
2. Go to the Control Panel and click Add Hardware, allow it to automatically detect new hardware and see if it picks up your sound card. If it does, go through the motions and install the driver.
3. Go to the Control Panel and click on Audio Options, see what you get. Anything you do there will probably only be a temporary fix until you get the driver back like I suggested in 2 anyway.

Hope this helps.

First, I assume you are running Windows. If your volume/sound control icon is still on the task bar, double click it. If not, go to the control panel and select "Sounds and Multimedia". When that opens, click on the options pull-down menu and select properties. when that window opens, make sure that your sound card is selected and put check-marks next to the controls you want to appear.
