dont buy your kid a pet. Best advice. You will have to take care of it. Especially at that age. He will say you wont have to take care of it and he will do everything, but it is not true. If he really wants, say a dog, make him wake up every morning at 5 or so and walk a leash (not a dog, just a leash) after a couple of days he probably wont want a dog. If he wants a cat, make him continue to clean out a litter box (even though it isnt dirty) if he wants a fish, make him scrub an aquarium. You get the idea. If your kid says he can deal with the responsibility and really wants an animal, show him how much responsibility it is to take care of a pet. If he continues for a month or more doing the responsibilities and still wants an animal, you should probably buy him one.

Dont be mean about it, just dont give in because you love him and want him to be happy.

I dont believe there is a good reason to give a child a pet that they would have to tend to every day they r just not responsible enough and the novelty will just wear off and u will be the one that has to care for it.

I can't think of one. I have 5 fairly responsible children ages 8-15. I would not gift a pet to any of them, unless I was willing to take care of the pet myself. Kids are not responsible enough to take care of an animal, even when "reminded".

Give the kid a chance. If you want him to grow up to be responsible, you have to give him some responsibility and see what he does with it.

But since you are most likely going to end up taking care of it or burying it, I'd go with a fish or something like that that doesn't require that much care...

Having a pet can teach a child compassion, concern for living things, a love of nature, responsibility, and increase their sense of well-being and self-worth.
I got a cat at that same age and it changed my life.

Like Yay Me said, start small. Then, as they grow up, you can get them something a bit bigger.
Pets honestly teach kids responsibility, when they're willing to care for them. So if it takes you nagging everyday until he gets it through to his brain, then do it.

All kids want pets. I suggest you start out with something small, like a fish, then if he takes good care of it then make your way up to maybe a dog. (eventually)

right here in Texas, we had a Governor's race those days that blanketed Kinky Friedman - a author/rancher and musician who was in a band called Kinky and the Jewboys lower back interior the Nineteen Sixties and 70s. He ran for governor as an self sustaining, and definitely gained the hearts of many. considered one of his bumper stickers in help of his marketing campaign says: "My Governor is a Jewish Cowboy" i think of it is kinda humorous. Or - "He ain't kinky, he's my Governor" (sung to the track, "He ain't heavy, he's my brother"). there is likewise yet another considered one of my favorites - "recommend human beings suck!" nicely, isn't that somewhat a "recommend" fact, for this reason making the "wearer" of the bumper sticky label "recommend", and for this reason stating that that guy or woman additionally sucks! i've got additionally considered a bumper sticky label lower back for the duration of the Volkswagen "Fahrvergnugen" days that had the VW guy or woman (insignia) dancing and the sticky label stated "Fukengruven". That grew to become into surprisingly humorous!
