My roomate has a 7 year old male cat. I have a 14 year old female cat. They got along great when we first moved in. Then we adopted a kitten. She is about 4 months old now. My roomates cat was the sweetest guy. Never turned cross. Just recently he has been so tempermental. He growls, swats and bites us when we pet him or sometimes when we come near him. He is especially sensitive with his tail and back now. I am not sure if he is hurting or just going through some "issues". Once in awhile he will play with the kitten nicely. It's so cute. But usually he attacks her (not playing) when she walks by him. We have givin him time to adjust and we give him special attention. We are stumped of what to do?? What can we do?

If he has become sensitive about his back and tail, my guess is that there is a physical problem. I would get this checked out by a vet

Have your vet rule out any illnesses.

If your cat is healthy, probably pretty safe bet he is angry about the new cat. You need to separate the cats until the hissing and swatting and biting stops.

Cats are territorial and a new cat is a rival. All the cats need to be secure in the knowledge that there is enough food, sleeping spots, litter box space and love from you to go around before they will relax.

With the addition of a third cat, you definately need to add a second litter box, if you haven't already. All cats should have their own food dishes too.

I would separate the kitten in another room with all that the kitten needs (food, water, litter, toys) until the angry kitty calms down.

I think he is very mad at you for getting a kitten he is fine with the female but he doesn't like the kitty. It really isn't fair to keep the kitty around if he doesn't like the kitty. Have a friend take the kitty for awhile and see if he gets back like he used to be if so then it really is the kitty if not then he has issues. you really won't be able to do anything just wait and see if he will come around the kitty (nicely). Good Luck! I am a huge cat lover and had many of them. I hope this helps
