You sound like a well to do young man and in that case must be smart. Get her a ring that you can afford without hurting your pockets and then worry about the actual wedding ring and other expenses that come along with getting married. From what you say, she sounds like she would appreciate a 1,000-5,000 dollar ring coming from you as a token of your love for her and treat it like it cost a million.

What the heck? If you have a woman who is real enough to not care either way, why waste your time? You can even buy her a different piece of engagement jewelry and deprive De beers of one more desperate lover.
Take her on a wonderful trip on her dream vacation instead. The memory will last a lot longer and be a whole lot more meaningful than if you waste your money buying something that's supposedly so rare but in reality, can be produced synthetically (no that's not fake stones REAL diamonds can be made synthetically).
Do both of you a favor and start the rest of your life with something that's actually meaningful for the two of you and not just something he diamond dealers keep using to convince you is true romance.
I know I'm ranting but if you watch old movies or TV shows; even those made 10 short years ago, you'll see that very few people proposed or even married with these huge ridiculous stones which have come to be accepted as the standard today. It's called media brainwashing.

Depends on the girl. Your girl doesn't care so, get her something nice just for being so unselfish. Something for about 3,000 if you don't mind shelling out the cash. Most woman just look at the size, carats, and type of gold. Never go in debt paying for a ring. Never buy a ring that you will regret spending the money on. Shop around for the best deal. Discounts do not matter. You would just be a smart shopper. Saving more money so you can use it later for other important things like the wedding.

You are thinking about this waaaay too much. If you spend the equivalent of 3 months salary, you're falling for a ploy. The diamond industry perpetuated that standard to get your money. And I'm guessing that you need that money more than they do. Buy her something reasonable, I'd say something anywhere from $200 to $1000, and keep the rest for a down payment on a house, a new car, or paying bills.

Why do you need to spend $15,000 if you yourself said that your girl does not really care. Spend $5,000 on a ring. That is impressive to any girl. Spend the other thousands in your marriage. you will need more than 25,000 for a niced wedding that is for sure!
Dont go crazy spending the money that you might not have saved.
Good luck!

for all of these people who don't know it is suppose to be 2 months salary, but that is kinda going away because diamonds prices aren't going up as fast as some peoples salaries. Also today your suppose to buy the style of ring that she wants, which takes a lot out of what you can chose from. and if she wants to marry you for you, the ring won't matter as much as the fact you gotta for her.

you should spend what u can afford and if she really loves you it wont matter, really! And even if u can afford alot it more so shouldn't matter, right??? YOu dont want someone to love u for any other reason then for you. Hey, you know what would be neat, just buy her a ring with a TINY diamond in it, like a fourth of a carat, with the cut and clarity of the lowest grade. :)

Get a ring that is pretty. If it's 400 bucks, then so be it. It's not the cost of the ring, it's the sybology behind it. Get something you know she will love the look of. Something classy, elegant, extravagant if that's her taste. Personally, i want a three stone ring, the middle a round cut, with a white gold band. Ask for her input!! good luck, btw!!

Ten percent of your gross salary. So from the salary of 98,000 that would be 9,800.00. I'm sorry that is for the wedding ring. If you want to spend more that is your choice. It mean you care and value her relationship. I'm not sure about an engagement ring. Sorry.

First of all, the $$$spent have absolutely NOTHING to do with it's meaning. Secondly, if you think that ring is expensive (no matter how much you pay for it), wait until you foot the bill for the marriage!
