I am glad to see someone else that knows Nissan is better than Honda which is WAY overrated......Honda has timing belts, bad cv joints, chronic a/c problems. Nissan has a timing chain, strong cv joints and good a/c. The body is tough......ESPECIALLY when compared to other foreign jobs as they use a metal that is 2 guage thicker than Toyota and Honda. The only real issues with the Maxima is the automatic transmission isn't as strong as their 5 speed, but you are looking at a manual.......GOOD CHOICE. The only other Nissan issues are ck engine light related, such as oxygen sensors. Oh, and you can get a Maxima WAY cheaper than a Honda or Toyota (and you are getting a better car) because you aren't paying for a NAME, you are paying for QUALITY AUTOMOBILE. GOOD LUCK and GOOD CHOICE!

I own a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE auto, best car I've ever owned. The body is in great shape and the paint still looks good after almost 8 years of use and 119,000 miles. I haven't had a single electronic failure yet with any of the power equipment. Basically just normal maintenance and a one-time coil pack replacement so far. There's also a good assortment of aftermarket parts available if you want to make your car faster and better handling.

They are a super car the body is no more fragile than any comparable Vehicle The 5 speed should be bought considerably cheaper than a automatic and the resale value is not as great as a automatic

These cars run on pulp so it will be more expensive to run. Usually are auto and are designed to be auto, manual will be a compromise, especially as it's front wheel drive. Very reliable but parts are expensive and insurance can be dearer also. If you can't afford to fix it, don't buy it. Having said that I have taken the same route in the past and the comfort, luxury and reliability of a more prestige vehicle is worth it as long as it's not a dog.

I have had 3 dodges, 2 fords, 2 hondas, and 4 nissans.
The Nissans have been one of my most reliable cars I ever own.

Even though I personally don't own one, a friend of mine did and I can tell you that the body is NOT fragile. He recently sold his and it looked as good as the day he bought it. We have A LOT of those cars in this area and I don't recall seeing a lot of dents in them, (like you do on the earlier model Hundyai's) and rust is definitely not an issue.
