I have to say there is a deffinate lack of intelligence concerning the Bible. It's bad enough when Atheist throw out a comment they heard somewhere, and have no idea what they're talking about, but hoped that Christian who claim they read the Bible would have more basic knowledge.

Atheist read what the Christians are writing, and think we're all crazy. Is so hard to expect if a Christian is going to quote the Bible, that they first check out the verse they're going to use?

Atheist have no You make some good points, things I've been talking about for a long time. Even among church attending Christians, A good portion of them only open their Bibles on Sunday. They hear a verse here and there, and from that develop their own theology. Even here on Yahoo, many professing Christians say they believe parts of the Bible, but not other parts. Either the Bible is the word of God, or it's not. Atheist have no monopoly on ignorance when it comes to the Bible.

You're kidding, right?
If there is dialogue going on in these forums, that's GOOD!
Everyone doesn't have a scholars' knowledge of why they believe what they believe, whether atheist, agnostic, Christian, Muslim, whatever. I'm just slap-happy that we can get on the computer and 'talk' openly about the topics which are important to us. There are plenty of places in the world where people vanish into thin air for discussing unpopular topics.

I have to both agree and disagree with you.

I have found the atheists who visit this site are far far more knowledgeable of the Bible than the majority of Christians who come here. Once Christians get beyond the few verses they rote memorized in Sunday School, they get a little lost.

Since you apparently put down other Christians in the question; let me test your knowledge. Scripturally speaking; how many books in the 'Old Testament'?

P.S. If the asker says 39 or 46; as far as I am presently concerned; the asker flunks the question. Further, the asker is part of why 'Christianity' is divided in the USA presently.

I've met plenty of Christians here who know the Bible and have studied it thoroughly. They quote in context and with good understanding of the entire topic.

I suggest the use of e-Sword, the electronic Bible texts that can be downloaded and quickly referenced. It has Bibles in many languages, plenty of reference materials, and a number of commentaries such as Matthew Henry.

The URL for e-Sword is:

I agree. They could even look it up online or download a free copy of Esword. http://www.e-sword.net/ .

I've also caught atheists pretending to be Christians just to make us look stupid, so it isn't always Christians to blame.

In fact, most of the time when an atheist asks a question, I think the best thing to do is ignore them in most cases. I don't go to atheist NGs and chatrooms trying to convert people, and I don't see why they come to Religion and Spirituality on Yahoo Answers.

Hey we are all foolish to the world? who are you trying to kid.
1 Peter 2:15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
Titus 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
1 Corinthians 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

There is a reason the Roman Catholics burned people who tried to translate the bible into the common tongues. Reading the bible can be dangerous. It encourages people to raise questions on their own and, even worse, answer them.
