He said he hates how people make such a big deal out of Valentine's day and how it grosses him out to see all the hearts and red everywhere and how commercial it is and blah blah. That has always been my belief too but back when I was single. Now that its the 1st Valentine's day for me in a relationship I was kinda hoping to celebrate it. He said he would celebrate it just to make me happy but deep down he really doesnt care. I told him I didnt care either. Should I still get him chocolates or should I just ignore the whole damn day? I secretly deep down wanna celebrate it!

Get him something and let him know that you weren't interested in celebrating Valentine's Day either until you met him. Then come up with a gift that will totally change his mind about Valentine's Day next year.

You don't mention your ages or the intimacy level of your relationship. But if your romance is physical or you hope it will be, there are lots of gifts a guy would like. If you are legal age, there are even more Valentine gifts to choose. For example, chocolate-dipped wine bottles, chocolate scented massage oils, and chocolate liqueurs.

Do something fun. Show him the versatility of Valentine's day. Forget the hearts and crap go for excitement. Both of you set a limit and go shopping. He picks what he would like and you pick what you would like and let him buy it (vice versa). Two happy candidates. Go to a movie, eat out, go skating or dancing....these are everyday things to do for Valentines Day so he won't be so freaked out. Maybe this is his first Valentine's too.

Say "you know how I said that I think Valentine's day is dumb and I don't really want to celebrate it? Well I DO think it's dumb... but I also think it's kind of nice and I'd like to maybe do SOMETHING about it..." Then you give him chocolates or whatever, and leave it up to him about whether he wants to make more of the day.

celebrate if you wanna... it is really commercial though... but maybe just celebrate by writing a poem and dinner at home or something... you know? intimate and special... just between you two and when he realizes you dont want an expensive gift just to celebrate he might grow to like valentines... you guys might develop a special ritual just for the two of you :)

I think if you went all out for him he would actually appreciate it. Because yes Valentines Day is a Hallmark holiday. But that doesn't mean you can't have fun for it. Even if he doesn't care either way whether you do something or not, he would be happy if you did do something for him.

What about dinner and buy him a card. Simple but you are still able to just be with him on that day with out making it a big deal.
