I am a Christian parent and NO I would not. That is a sick and disgusting movie and more than inappropriate for small children. Both of my children, now grown, became Christians. It is a personal choice, I could not choose for them.

any parent that makes a 4-6 year old watch the Exorcist is sick - no matter what the reason! They should be charged with child abuse!
Don't get me wrong, I think it is the greatest horror film of all time and one of the best movies ever made BUT it is for adults who can understand the context!

No. That would be lying. I've known a lot of people who strayed from the Christian path, but I've never known any of them to show signs like in the Exorcist.

No one should force a child to watch a horror movie for any reason. That movie scared me when I was 14 and I don't want to see it again and I'm 42. As a Christian parent, my children learned about God's Love and sang songs when they were that age. Children need to stay innocent as long as they can.
May God Bless you.

I would never let my child see the Exorcist. Instead, I would teach him/her about God's love and plan for his life. I would model God's love and justice in my own life, be consistent with teaching and discipline with love, and teach the Bible. As they get older, we can talk about Satan and the consequences of sin. The Bible teaches that demons do not inhabit a house that is filled with the Holy spirit but only those that are empty. (meaning a person's soul.) It is irresponsible to leave such important teaching to Hollywood.

At age 4-6 the child must learn the Love of Christ. They must learn basic right and wrong in relationships and in life that is age appropriate. The Exorcists story is not appropriate.
However, the Exorcist is a true story, with medical professionals documentation who authenticated the experiences that occurred in Saint Louis to a young boy. This young boy is still living today and is healthy with no other experiences of possession by the devil.
Exorcisms are real.

2Ti 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all [men], apt to teach, patient.
I thank God he doesn't put hell's flames in front of me and say this is what you will get if you don't serve me. We have the freedom of choice.
The fruits of the Spirit describe our Lord and Savior. We are suppose to put them on. This is how we should live in front of our children to set an example to them and show them the right way to go. If they see these in us as parents they will learn to be like this. They will learn that God is love!
1Jo 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
When I hear of situations such as the one you described my mind visits the Bible and I remember the scripture that follows:
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

I think focusing on the love Jesus represents is more important. The "fire and brimstone" mentality didn't work in the past and will not work now. If anything it will give the impression that God is just a punishing God and not a loving God. Yes children need to be aware that every action has a consequence but if you teach them to love Jesus, because he represents love, they will want to please him! We should be teaching our children how to have a personal relationship with God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, incorporating his Word.
Showing a child that movie as reference to God is just plain bizarre to me! As adults we should fear God, but reference to the word fear in the Bible in most cases, actually means RESPECT, not be afraid of. Unless you are a sinner that wont repent, then by all means be afraid!

Oh come on... that's a terrible thing to do. The Exorcist still scares ME at 28.
Did this happen to you as a child?

I think only a complete nutter would do that.
I for one wasn't allowed to watch the E. In fact, as a teen - around 14 I think - my mother the psychic happened to find out that I was watching it at a friend's house. it was to be an overnight visit.
Well, that got cancelled.
