Generally it is a blood test. Your blood is tested for levels of TSH and T4. The balance of these hormones indicate your thyroid function. An excess of TSH and defeciency of T4 indicates underactive thyroid and the reverse indicates an overactive thyroid.

It's a test to determine the activity level of your thyroid gland, which produces specific hormones etc. in your body. I believe it's a simple blood test. The doctor/nurse will take a blood draw then run your blood through a series of chemical tests. I had one done a while back when I was about to start on birth control. I think there is some conflict of going on the pill and having hyperthyroidism (over active thyroid).

It's a simple blood test to check how well your thyroid is functioning. If your thyroid is under active (hypo thyroidism) you can feel tired all the time and gain weight. If it is overly active (hyper thyroidism) you can suffer an accelerated heartbeat and feel hot all the time. Hyper is definitely worse as it generally requires intervention by the doctor whereas hypo the doctor can control with medication.

It all depends on what they are looking for. Generally they draw blood to detect the levels of hormones. They can also do a CT scan and use a dye that will be taken up by the gland in order to diagnose. I'm not sure if that dye is injected into the vein, or taken orally.

It depends on what they suspect is wrong. My thyroid test was a simple blood test. (The blood was withdrawn from my arm.)
