Just got home from park with 18 month old grandson. Started a roast for dinner. Had popped it into open and then quickly bent down to pick up something I had dropped. Then immediately got sharp shooting pains behind left ear with immediate fairly loud clicking or ticking sounds. CALL ME CRAZY, but it concerned me. Have had clicking sounds before but certainly never anything like this with the sharp pains behind the left ear only. If anyone has experienced such on ordeal, I would be so thankful for your input. Pain is not bad now and took 2 aspirins right away as well. I don't like pills in general but hopefully they would help with pain and or thin the blood if that had anything to do with this sudden onset...Thanks in advance...Lill

You have moved in such a way that one of the muscles (probably in your neck) began to rebel. The pain can come from a far away as your upper back but can include your front side shoulders neck and everywhere on your head. What happened it the muscle gained a knot called a trigger point. Most massage therapists can work on it to help loosen it up.
But since everyone has pains throughout our lives it is worth the time to read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches you about how to help yourself.

I had the same symptoms many years ago. They checked everything and could find nothing wrong. They finally sent me to an Ear, Nose, & Throat Doctor.

What had happened was my frontal sinuses had plugged up and could not drain. The bags that the frontal sinuses have were swollen to the point of pressing on my brain. It started with pain over and behind one ear like you say and seemed to be mostly when I leaned over. By the time I got to the doctors I was having pain on both sides of my head...it felt light lightening going through.

The doctor said that had I left it untreated for a few more weeks the sacks could have ruptured and shot mucus from my sinuses into my brain which would have killed me almost instantly.

If this is your problem I can not tell you for sure. But I would certinally have it checked out by a doctor, and soon.

That could very well be swollen tonsils. If the area around the back of your mouth is swollen it can feel like that. It could also be that you are dehydrated, the muscles and tendons tend to cramp up when that happens. Best thing to do would be to drink lots of water and electrolytes to hydrate and to rinse your mouth out if it is tonsils. If it gets worse though I would go see a doctor, it can really cause a lot of pain if it gets stronger.
