If God showed himself to me, i'd tell him that he's a big egotistical jerk and that lifes about more than making him happy by feeding his big ego.

Not necessarily. When Jesus came to earth, he came as a human. Just an ordinary carpenter's son. Nobody Special to the public eye. But not many people knew or believed that Jesus was sent by God. That's the thing in Christianity. You need to have faith that God came to earth to save us. If you do, you live a life that is pleasing to God. If Christianity is a fake, then we are all doomed. But if not, all the Christians spend eternity in Heaven with Jesus in paradise. I am convinsed that Jesus came to earth to save me and that I am going to Heaven when I die.

Your right, lots of people did not recognise Him as God, but lots did. Thomas refused to believe when he heard that Jesus had rose from the dead. He said "Unless I see the nailprints in his hands then I will not believe". Later, Jesus appeared to Thomas, and he saw the marks on His hands, and He believed.
Jesus was seen by over 500 people after His resurrection.

If it was that easy, we wouldn't need faith. Our faith is what seperates our God from the Jim Jones' of this world. God asks us to step out in faith, to use both hands to reach up for him; and risk falling to allow him to pick us up as a father would catch a falling child, trying to learn to walk. 12 men with a blue collar backround recognised Jesus...they were nothing special, but Jesus saw them as special. If we didn't need faith to make the relationship work, it wouldn't be something we would hold in a special place in our heart. It just wouldn't make a difference. It would be more like Robots being told what to do. God gives us a choice...because he wants our love given with our best effort. We don't lose points for falling down...we get back up and He doesn't leave us. God reveals himself to each of us, as we make our hearts ready. How scary would it be to have it any other way? Jesus came as a baby, something we could understand. Not as the CEO of the world...If you could recognise God on sight, what would the world do...sell tickets? Make money off the very sight? God speaks thru friends, family and sometimes, even enemies, to get our attention. He simply loves us and is willing to wait for us...but not for forever. Simply put, God is love...if we love others as ourself, we honor God. In essence, we see God.

People recognized him as God's son...still true until today...but years ago, in the council of Nicaea (under Pagan Emperor Constantine), they established he is God.
No one can see God and yet live...

I like how people had to tell him he was god. Wouldnt god know hes god? Why did he need convincing. There are many times in the gnostic texts where jesus gets mad because every one thinks he is god and keep trying to convince him he is, when he trys to explain, 'i am the son of god, as you are the son of god.'
Or when hes on the cross. "Why art though forsaken me Lord?"
SO gods asking himself why he forsake himself? wha....

Those that did not recognize him are much like yourself. You will not see what you're not looking for or ready to see. I work and study so that I will be able to recognize him.
Jesus often taught using parables. Those that heard these parables and were not ready to understand them, di not understand them, but those that were ready to learn received his message.

It's like unicorns.
A horse walks past and you say "look, it's a unicorn!" People look and they don't believe you.
Then the horse gets stepped on by Godzilla.
You say to people "remember that horse? Imagine he had a big horn on his head. Would he look like a unicorn?" The people think and agree that, yes, he would look like a unicorn.
"See" you exclaim "that proves it. He was a unicorn after all! You just didn't recognize it."

People turn away from the light - they want to continue in darkness so they can do whatever they want without being discovered. If you want to know the truth, simply ask Him. However, you'll have to mean it.
