the following is excerpts from a similar question: "my husband just spoke with poison control and they said a 4yr old child can eat as many as 20 regular strength tums without any side affects and we both just counted the bottle cause we just got it and we were only giving it to my 11yr old and there are only 11 missing from the bottle." Tums is basically sodium bicarbonate in the form of calcium. I would dare say he could eat the whole bottle, and it would not be toxic. You can also consult Web MD and get information like that or similar websites.

I believe that Tums are just calcium carbonate...so they shouldn't be too bad...but read the package and they will tell you what to do incase of accidental overdose...Call your pediatrician and poison control and ask them what to do ...also see if you can ascertain how much was consumed, that will be helpful information for the doctor and poison control, and in the future keep all medications in child proof containers and out of reach of children.
Good luck papa.

Tums aren't really a "drug". They are calcium and charcoal that absorbs the acid in your stomach. One (if you're sure) won't hurt, but monitor your child closely for the next 24 hours. If you see anything at all odd, take them to the hospital.
In the future, be sure to keep medicine and household cleaners locked up, or in a high cupboard they can't climb up to.

Unless he/she ate the whole bottle I wouldn't worrie about it.
I would make sure that stuff like that is put away in a safe place to prevent it from being something worse.

Call poison control or a pharmacist and ask them if it is safe, if you should do anything to treat, or if you should go to the hospital. One tums shouldn't be a problem, but are you sure it was only one? Either way, be safe and talk to the experts!

Call Poison Control. They can advise you what to look for. Chances are, it's nothing to worry about, but you can never be too safe!
