There is no one that you can pray to who will actually listen except yourself. Trust in yourself and your own ability to support yourself through hard times. People would be more successful if they trusted in themselves instead of some invisible spirit to help them out of a crisis.

There are no crutches. During a life crisis it's far wiser to understand the causes and conditions that brought the crisis into being in your life, and learn how to calm your mind and subdue incorrect thought and reactions to such a crisis. This way you "lean on" yourself and you begin shutting down the causes and conditions for further crises to arise in your life in the future, or at least you won't see them as so dramatic if they do (if your karmic debt is still rather heavy), but then by the same token if you study the Dharma you can also learn how to reduce your bad karma too...

Why do you feel the need to pray to any kind of imaginary character? Try actually talking with a close friend, a family member, a trusted co-worker. You'll get so much more out of talking with an actual live person than you will with any amount of pointless prayer.

The Bible says that we should pray in Jesus Name. I can tell you that it works, from experience! We are all given a measure of faith when we are born. God put that there for a reason. He wants us to use that seed of faith to reach for Him. I don't really believe that you are an Athiest. You just want to be disobediant for the time being. Don't get me wrong. I used to the biggest alcoholic I knew! I was a whore Monger. I did alot of really bad things. Then I met Jesus Christ!! He showed me a better way to live. I can wake up in the morning with my head held high. Good bye guilt.
Jesus wants to provide for our every need. The more that we rely on Him, the more He blesses us. Did I mention that He forgave ALL of my sins! I am a new creature in Christ.
I was where you are. I knew of a higher power but didn't think anything about it. Then I found out who that higher power was, and all that He wants us to do is to become our friend, lover, confidant, but most of all He wants RELATIONSHIP.

There is a higher force ,might be spiritual or inner power. I call it God. when I am very sick or in crisis,I pray Father help me..... Atheist believe in God indirectly, because they believe that there is a high power intelligent that governed this universe.A christian who wants to help people will build a church. An atheist who wants to help people will build a hospital. So,My personal opinion there is godliness on both of them. God as supernatural, immortal and having the special powers over the lives and affairs of people and the course of nature. I believe inner power (soul) is God. listen to your inner self you will find God higher force or buddha inside you. Peace and enlightenment be with you.

Friends and Family and digging within yourself for strength and hope.

Here is a question for you. Why is praying to a carved statue OK, but praying to a rock chipped off by the artist make you a nut case?

Lean on your fellow humans, tell them your troubles.

Otherwise, write a journal or diary. It will give you the same feeling as you get when you pray.

This issue was the topic of a lot of 19th and 20th century philosophy--how to get by in a world without god. Read up on existentialism.

Then lean on your family. A crutch will never help you heal. A crutch is only something to lean on. Your family can do more.

Pray to the first thing you see in front of you.

It would do as much good as praying to any of the mythological gods.
