I cant see any other reason for a 5 year old child to say that unless his parent told him to say it. What do you think? Is it common for Christian parents to tell their children christian beliefs before they are old enough to understand what they mean?

A 5 year old may have said that but no way do they understand what it means. Many churches have Sunday school or Sabbath school for toddlers and young children which means that by the time a child is 5 they have heard many things about God and Jesus but they wouldn't have the comprehension to understand what they are being told.

I was raised to be a Christian. By the time I was 5 I wanted to be a missionary. You learn real quick as a child what will gain your paretns approaval and what they want to hear. Then you go with it and take it further, suprising them with how much God is speaking to you. This pleases them more. They are convinced that it is between god and you, because they never told you these things... but they pushed you in that direction and they are just so happy with your pure heart. It is kinda sad really, cause as an adult, when you choose a different way, who you were as a child is thrown in your face to show you that you are now, not being true to yourself. After all children are pure, unmarked, and who they were as children, is an image of their true selves.... sigh.

What that 5 yr old said had to have been overheard. At 5, my kids knew there was God, Heaven, a few Bible stories and songs. It's a learning process just like any other subject. You don't teach a 5 yr old Algebra but you should teach simple addition and subtraction. It grows from there.

May God Bless you.

A 5 yr old would never say that on their own. Yes, Christian parents teach them about religion before they're even able to talk, much less think for themselves.

It's common for any parent to pass along all their belief to their children. Christian or non-Christian. It does not matter.

That doesn't sound like the words of a 5 year old, but some children will surprise you.

The Lord wants us to have faith that of a child.

Whether or not he has heard this from his parents, is irrelevant.
This child has much wisdom and insight, because his statement is so true.

Jesus came that you may have life, and have life to the full.

Yes it is. They have a saying in catholic churches (I'm not catholic) that goes, 'give us a child for the first 7 years, and we'll have him for life'. Christians do teach young children about God but that's probably something he overheard.

Whew. I have not mentioned much to my 4-year-old child yet. It is never to early to talk. It is too early to preach. My husband and daughter pray before she goes to bed. I do not because I am not Christian. I have mixed feelings about what she should be taught.
