it wasn't illegal then because the natives didn't have immigration laws. It is not illegal now either....you are free to come here you just have to go to the proper channels...plus many of the people that come here illegally give everyone else a bad name because they are often irresponsible in other areas as well as not law abiding (in addition to the original broken law of not immigrating legally.) It is the land of oppurtunity! Just do it right and fairly!!

It is not illegal for the people to come to the US. People may visit and study here. People may live here if done in a legal manner. The Land of Opportunity is a sovereign country with laws. Once someone enters the country illegally he/she has become a criminal, meaning they have broken the law. Do reward a criminal?
Please define bum? An American that you do not think deserves the job?
As for the exploration and colonization of the US, you really need to study your world history. Unfortunately the Native Americans were not treated well ( I have them as well as Europeans arriving as early as the 1600s as ancestors). I also have ancestors who were killed and captured by Indians. It is a sad part of our past, but that is where it is, in the past. Countries fought and conquered each other all the time. There was the Roman Empire, the Brittish Empire, the Ottoman Empire, even Germany tried an Imperial move during WWII.
You must live in today's world. The US has a finite amount of resources and space. Eventually it will give out if put under too much strain.
I would like to know why you think the US should provide opportunity to those who break the law as soon as step foot inside the country when they choose to come illegally?
What is your perception of job availability? Do you realize that some Americans do not have or cannot afford health insurance? Did you know that many have to file bankruptcy due medical bills? Did you know that we are not guaranteed jobs? We can be laid off from one job without another for months sometimes over a year?
Did you know that it cost about $52,000 a year to get a 4 year college education. Unless you are very poor, you must find that money usually through loans to pay for it yourself? We don't just get everything handed to us. Sometimes I think that point is overlooked too easily.
We have to work hard for what we have. If we don't enforce our immigration laws why enforce the other laws? It doesn't seem fair.
Doesn't the US have a right to know exactly who is in the country and for what purpose for our national security.
When people break the law there are victims, even those crossing the border illegally. If you answer these questions and still cannot understand the issue with it, I am not sure what else I could say.

I must agree with the fact that it is not illegal to come to this country. As long as you do it legally as so many others from other countries do. Back in the days of the natives there was very much land and not a lot of people. Also back in those days there was not an economy. The natives have not been wiped out. There are still many tribes out there in this country. However, the natives for the most part have assimilated to the current way of life because they have seen far better things than the way they were living. They have learned the english language and have obeyed the laws and, oh yeah did I fail to mention they are legal. There is not a problem coming here. The problem starts when you cross the border illegally and you work here and you send your money home withpout paying our taxes and when you don't pay your own medical bills and when you enroll your kids into our education system without paying anything and you expect everyone else to pay your way. When the Europeans came here the natives did not pay their way. The Europeans did it on their own. There are such things nowadays as laws that were set in place to protect the economy and interest of all that reside legally in this country. The influx of illegal immigrants have put such a burden on our taxpaying citizens that it has created such animosity toward all illegals. Pay our taxes, pay your medical bills, obey our laws and sign the proper documents and it'll all be a good thing. Once you do all that, then please by all means take full advantage of this great land of oppurtunity.

Its not illegal for any race of people to migrate here, but they must enter our country legally, not illegally, that is the only thing illegal thing about it. They can choose to be a law abiding Citizen , or an illegal, they make that choice we don't. I take it your saying U.S. Citizens are bums, that is simply not true my friend. Illegals are willing to under-cut the pay of the U.S. Worker, hence they steal jobs from legal Citizens.
Regarding the flow of past European immigration to this land, The "Native Americans" migrated here at one point also, you can verify this in Ancient History.
The laws of this land were developed by the European Settlers, and they are the foundation of this country.
Its so easy to blame the Europeans, and say we all originated from different lands, but the facts still remain the same, we have laws that can't be broken.
Why can't everyone just respect the laws of this country? People need to realize if we let every immigrant in at their choosing, our economy would co lapse. We have to have flow control to preserve the existence of our great Country. We can not be over populated and put the burdon on the U.S. Tax payer it is simply unfair to do so.

There must be a way to keep control of the people living in every country. I agree that the immigration system in the U.S. is a little double sided (maybe a lot!), but we need to have a system. The ideal would be to have a better system to be able to give people a real opportunity, but at the same time keep control of who is here in the U.S.
Regarding why before it was like that and now is like this... things have changed, and also population. I don't think there is a place in the world where you can just "land' and stay without telling anyone.
I went through the whole immigration process and it is not easy. But it is necessary. I really hope one day the process could be simplified, as I told you, to give people a chance, but at the same time have some good control over who is here, and therefore, be able to create programs to help more people, create the right programs for schools, be safer, etc.

The US is a WHITE country. It was discovered by Whites, colonized by Whites, developed to what it is today, the most powerful nation this planet has ever seen, by us the Europeans.
I have no problem of Europeans coming to America, but all other mud-races should not only be sent back, all non-Europeans already living in America should be send back to their respective hellholes.

I UNDERSTAND WHY YOU RAISE THE QUESTION. LIFE IS NOT TOTALLY FAIR NO MATTER HOW YOU SLICE IT. AS I UNDERSTOOD THEIR WAS RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION FROM HENCE THEY CAME SO THEY ARRIVED HERE AND THEN STARTED FIGHTING WITH THE NATIVES. ALONG WITH THE BRITISH, FRENCH,SPANIISH - - - IN THOSE DAYS I GUESS THAT WAS THE CHRISTIAN WAY OF CONVERSION. MY ANCESTORS WERE THE FIRST SETTLERS IN THIS NATION . THEY ARE BURIED IN NEW ENGLAND. SOME ARE BURIED IN CONCORD MASSACHUSETTS AND NEARBY. I WOULD LIKE TO DIG ONE UP AND FIND OUT WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ! THEN, AS IF THAT WASNT ENOUGH WE WENT TO THE SOUTH AND FOUGHT IN THE CIVIL WAR.OVER SLAVERY. IT SEEMS LIKE WAR IS THE WAY TO SETTLE EVERYTHING . GOD BLESS WAR ! ! CRAZY ISNT IT ! ! MAYBE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION SOMEWHAT, THE U.S.A. IS QUITE PROSPEROUS AND IF EVERYONE CAME HERE WE WOULD BECOME A GUMBO. MAYBE, JUST MAYBE EVENTUALLY THE WHOLE PLANET WILL BE MORE OR LESS ONE IN MANY MANY WAYS INCLUDING PROSPERITY ,EDUCATION , TRAVEL, ETC. MAYBE THEN WE COULD FINALLY GIVE WAR THE BUMS RUSH.

Why???......because back then, there were NO laws, in fact, there was NO "United States of America"!!!!
EVERY country has borders EVEN mexico!!!! We (our ancestors) made this land into what it is today, with hardwork and sacrifice!!! So, you see, things are different TODAY, we DO have laws AND borders, and it is ILLEGAL to sneak accross those borders!!
So, WHY do WE keep getting blamed for the fact that mexico treats THEIR citizens like crap?? Mexico needs to take care of their OWN citizens!!! It is NOT up to US to do it!!!!! We have our OWN poor people who need help. And at least THEY deserve our help!!! UNLIKE the ILLEGALS!!!!
And,while this IS the "land of opportunity". these PRIVILEGES are for LEGAL American citizens!!!! KEY word here is LEGAL!!!!!!!!
