Is there any credible solid evidence that the bible is more than historical fiction? The most common evidence pointing towards the bible being fact is that the bible says it is the word of god. How is that a credible response?

One place to start you search would be the book of Daniel, the prophecies contained therein were made some 200 years prior to the events occurance. Take for instance the predictions concerning Alexander the Great, "...And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those." When you study ancient Near Eastern History, you will find that Alexander's kingdom was divided among four of his generals, he himself having no heir. This is just a sampling of the factual evidence for the Bible as the word of God.

Perhaps you would prefer a logical argument. Consider this, the Bible was writen by the pens of some 40 different authors, who cover all levels of society, kings, slaves, fishermen, men of learning, day laborers, pirnces and so forth. Along with that consider this, the time span of the Bible compilation is over 1,400 years, and never once does the Bible contradict itself. From the ancient manuscripts all the way up to the modern translations the content has been the same, now there is difference in the linguistic nuances, but the message is the same through out, the Dead Sea Scrolls found in 1947 verified the veracity of the extant Bible that we have today.

The Bible was written and translated by men. Men are obviously human and will make mistakes. Also one language will not translate into another without problems. It's no different than the childhood game of Telephone. There is no way that the original Hebrew text is the same as the modern English we have today.

Also, many stories found in the Bible are also found in cultures that were even older than it is.

If anything, there is more evidence that the Bible is not entirely fact but may have a little truth to it.

If the Gospels are reliable, then no further proof should be needed. But are the Gospels and their witness true? They need to be put to the test. There is nothing irreverent in this at all (1 Thessalonians 5:21). We need to apply to them the same basic rules to which scholars subject all other literature in order to prove its reliability.
There are four major rules for proving the credibility of documents. One, was the writer of the document an eyewitness to the events he records or was he at least a contemporary that lived in the same area of the events? Two, were there other independent witnesses to corroborate the evidence? Three, did those witnesses continue to maintain their testimonies until death—even to the jeopardy of their lives? Four, were there also hostile witnesses who would have reason not to believe the evidence but still say the events occurred? If all of these four factors are in solid evidence, then reliability becomes very acceptable. With the New Testament documents, we have all four evidences in a firm position for credibility.

the concern your having is that your reading it as an English speaking present day-day female. You overlook that the bible is initially written in Hebrew, that's an completely distinctive langauge (a good distance from English). The bible does not say the earth is 6000 years previous. for the duration of the creation tale the HEBREW be conscious used for day is 'yom' which does not consistently recommend in basic terms a 24hr era. in many circumstances the be conscious 'yom' refers to a quantity of time (that would spand billions and billions of years). for this reason, at some point of creation might have not been 24hrs (a million literal day) simply by fact the ENglsih translation makes it look.... As you will discover, an outstanding sort of issues exchange into much less sparkling once you already know that hebrew is very distinctive from english... its why 'God' is many times wrong for a guy, while he's genderless. interior the english translation, the sentances practically state that God is a male. even nevertheless, interior the unique Hebrew language it known God as only masculine, not a male. Non-human gadgets have been given masculine or female pronouns interior the Hebrew Language....

There are numerous true Historical facts in the Bible; historians have used the bible to discover very many ancient historical sites.
Nearly ever settlement described in the Bible have been found.
The problem with the bible is that Biblical dates don't seem to correspond with Historical dates; for example, archaeologists, using the bible found the City of Jericho as described in the Bible but they are saying that Jericho was destroyed over 200 years before the bible says it occured.

The Bible foretold over 3500 years ago that God would scatter the Jews around the world, yet in the last days regather them to the land of Israel before the appearance of Messiah.(Deuteronomy 30:1-5) The initial fulfillment of this took place in 1948 when 700,000 poorly armed Jews successfully defended themselves against 40 million heavily armed Arabs intent on driving them into the sea. Thus was born the current nation of Israel. That they were able to maintain their unique identity after being scattered for nearly 1900 hundred years is miraculous in itself. Much of this can I think be credited to their continued observance of feasts instituted as celebrations of Bible miracles, such as the Feast of Passover (the deliverance from Egyptian bondage) and Purim (the deliverance from attempted genocide during the reign of Ahasuerus). These are just a few examples. It's marvelous to me how God gives the skeptics enough reason to doubt and believers enough reason to believe. Already He is separating the sheep from the goats.

Yes. For centuries there have been names of locations and rulers that weren't known. Historians thought these were just fictitious names. But recent archaeological discoveries have proved the Bible to be correct. Everything mentioned concerning science is being proved true. And the prophesies made have never been proven wrong. So yes, there is solid evidence that the Bible is real.

In the bible there is a detailed description of what is called the tabernacle pattern. God transformed into this pattern in Moses's vision and commanded Moses to build one exactly like it. Everything in the universe fits this pattern without failure. That was God's way of providing proof to his existence, even thought the bible has been severely tampered with. Still god shines through to those he reveals himself to. This is another mystery that has been hid from the majority.

The point of the Bible being the "word of God" is that one must accept it upon faith that it is true. You have to really want to believe. I personally don't care if it is a fact or not, but I suspect that true believers simply accept it as fact but don't feel any need to prove it one way or another.

People believe it to be credible in and of itself. Yes, when you pray to God, miracles can happen, but I don't believe the bible helped. But people think it did. It is a tool people use to get closer to God instead of just praying.

It's like the question about the tree falling in the forest. People believe and disbelieve and that is their choice.
