Ignore the rude answers. Some people are just plain ignorant.
Your dog is not stupid or gross. It is a natural, albeit sick by human standards, habit.
I had an old English sheepdog who had that same sick habit. I tried the pepper solution but she forgot that lesson quickly. Sigh, she also had a thing about cleaning out kitty litter boxes. GROSS. The only thing I could do was make sure she never "kissed" me.
Since she was not a yard dog and was only out with me, I just picked it up before she got to it. That made it a moot point. If you leave your pup to run out back and do the deed, then you need to keep a closer eye on her.
You might also speak to your vet.
You might also go to a place that specializes in dog foods and various nutritional products. Speak with the owner or someone who knows their stuff. Often these people know a lot about such things and can advise you if it happens to be a nutritional thing that is pushing her to this.
Good luck.

you'll find when a dog is eating their own "poo" they are often lacking somthing in their diet so i would look at the type of food you are feeding your dog every type of dog food is rated by AFCO as you what it is good for (large breed, puppy, adult ect..) there is also a huge difference in the way the foods will affect your dog, i have 2 who were doing amazing on Science Diet Puppy food but when the time came to switch them to adult the science diest wasnt any good for them, they began to shed more and their coat wasnt as shiny and they actually gain weight even though the food was the olny change in their routine i have sense switched them to Blue Bufflo it is a holistic dog food and i have found a huge difference in them they not only look alot better they actually eat less of the good food because they dont need as much (they are on open feed always have been)
so pretty well just go to a pet store and read the labels on the bag they have to say what is in them for fat and protien content and such and dont be afraid of trying a few different types of food with yuor dog to see which one they react best to but keep in mind when you switch foods to do it slowly otherwise your dog will most likely be sick for a day or two if you switch them suddenly

Alot of dogs have this problem and it's not really an easy habit to break. One thing I've learned, that takes alot of time, but really works is teaching your dog to "leave it". Start by having a dry biscuit or bone in one hand and having your dogs favorite treats on hand and let the dog sniff the hand with the dry biscuit and once it does that, tell the dog to "Leave it" Once the dog takes the pressure off the hand with the biscuit in it give him a few of his favorite treats. After she gets a hang of that try throwing the dry treat on the floor, but throw it somewhere where you can block her from getting it if she tries to go after it after you tell her to "leave it" if she keeps going for it keep blocking her until she sits down and stops paying attention to it then reward her big. Your dog will get a hang of this, and then start using better treats to throw on the floor and tell her to "leave it" and then like I said keep rewarding her with her Favorite Treat so she knows if she leaves the goodie on the floor she'll get something better. Then you can take it outside. Find a pile of poo and get ur dog to notice it and then try the leave it and block her if you need to. Once she leaves it reward her huge and tell her good girl right away. You might need to practice this a few times, but eventually she'll leave it without you even telling her.

There could be countless motives or no reason in any respect. some say they learn this habit as domestic dogs from their mom and that they'll improve out of it. it relatively is a digestive situation while the foodstuff isn't being digested sufficient so it nevertheless smells and tastes like foodstuff and/or they are attempting to reabsorb the nutrition they do no longer look to be soaking up suitable. it relatively is out of boredom. (Yea i understand i ought to discover extra effective issues to do too!). They even say it relatively is genetic in some canines. it relatively is relatively on no account uncommon. you are able to attempt the Forbid products which you splatter on their foodstuff to make the poo style undesirable (as though it would not already!). you are able to attempt a splash pineapple with each and every meal, digestive enzymes and there is even a meat tenderizer that some swear by means of even though it relatively is relatively helpful to look it up as i won't be able to undergo in ideas the call. of course do no longer attempt each and every thing at as quickly as or you have got a vomiting canine too! :) I actually have a poo eater that has taught my different 2 canines to consume poo to boot. I choose she would have taught them something else. in any case, no longer something has labored along with her. It has improve right into a habit now and the only way i will avert it relatively is to circulate exterior along with her and %. it up as we communicate so as that they are able to't consume it. each and every of the "end-stool ingesting" products are relatively worth a shot, yet interior the top you would be able to ought to be there to maintain the poop out of attain. solid success! Very stressful habit!

To get your dog to stop eating poo, u should probably get it on a new diet. It probably smells what it's eating in it's poo and knows he/she wants more. Give her food that she won't be ablt to smell in her poo.
Or, just scoop the poo right after he/she goes. Then it won't even be an issue

Well, some dogs just love to scoff turds, no matter where they are from. It can be a sign of a vitamin/mineral deficiency in the diet. Why not try some doggy multivitamins from your pet store?

You have control of the pet. Do you not? When the dog goes, pick it up or dont let the dog eat it... simple.

Take her to the vet and see if she has worms. I got two dogs from the shelter and they both ate their own poo, but I got worm medication and it stopped as soon as they were healthy again.

This is problem allot of dog owners have. What works for me is after your dog does his thing outside sprinkle pepper, hot pepper or Chile spices. etc on it. He won't eat it for long and it won't hurt him either
