when i ask why people believe what they do. when i ask them about a contradiction in their beliefs, they always are completly unprepared with what they know, despite the fact that they take classes in school to teach them about it so they can go on their mission after graduation.

example
Mormons: they believe god was once a man and that they also believe in the bible. the bible states that god is not an exaulted man. they also (not to well known though) believe in blood atonement. which is the spilling of the sinners blood but, once again believe in the bible and christ, the bible states that christ's blood was the last to be spilt out of repent for sin.

aithiest: evolution! they only stay with what in one earth. they don't think about outside of earth to often. everyone that i have talked to have said that "everything has an origin". well, what exactly is the origin of energy, the thing that makes up atoms? they have never givin me a strait answer other than that it has always existed. but before i ask this question, i ask them why they don't believe in god, they say "because nothing can possible 'always exist' like god". so they just contradict themselves.

"Why do people defend their religion withour proper knowledge of it?" Because even things that said person does not heave knowledge on....sometimes needs to be defended. :-) your refering to christians though...so I won't get off track and give you a bogus answer that involves everyone...not just christians. Alright, to break it down into bite sized pieces....because people are self rightous, and sometimes, just don't study enough....or, sometimes there is no other answer, so they take it on faith... I admit that it can be pretty annoying to come up to a christian, ask them "where all the water went after the flood" and have them stare at you for ten minutes before saying "God did it". Bogus answers that really get you no where. (the answer to the above question should go more like, the world is now made out of 75% water, and the oceans are miles, and miles deep.....that's where the water went. I don't believe before hand there were lots of lakes and oceans, not even rivers. the bible states that the people got their water from the morning dew....never mentions a lot about water, lakes rivers....so on. Until after the flood.)
Anyway, to get back to the point. Some people just don't have the logic it takes for it....and you addressed the fact that many people go to be missionarys...quite so, but to be a missionary you are not taught how to "debate the finer points" with evolutionists/atheists/buddisists/anything else. You are taught how to preach, teach, and evangilize. :-) For the most part I agree with you, people are unprepared to fight it with you. But, are you prepared to fight with me? Now I have no idea on what you believe, so I couldn't very well challenge you....but really, are you anymore prepared to counter/answer my every question? If you are, than I praise you....and I will also think you aren't human. No one person can be ready for every single question that stands the test of time, space, and peoples minds. But they can be willing to fight for what they believe.....and study all that they can. So that when the day that a battle is called for, they will have a sharp two edged sword in their mouth. And that goes out to everyone who believes in something, but isn't prepared to fight for it.
God bless you in your quest for challenging the challenger.

Pretender has it actually nicely suitable.. almost all Christian ritual and custom got here out of Jewish custom, the purely divergence is that Christians trust the Messiah has been right here, interior the guy of Jesus, and the Jews trust Jesus turned right into a prophet, not the messiah... There are some spectacular and straightforward books that study more than a number of non secular faiths, and what's maximum brilliant to many folk is that Islam is depending also on many of the Jewish custom, blended with some jap mysticism and tribal and cultural rituals of the area from which it sprang. i'd wish as you concentrate on marriage you communicate the way you need to reinforce a kin (if it quite is on your destiny), as non secular adjustments (even lack of faith is a large difference) regularly deliver about deep resentment if children are not afforded chance to advance a determination of faiths which to adhere to. good success and "God Bless" -- sorry, i could not withstand...

It's very sad. We are commanded to " preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction." (2nd Timothy 4:2)
And in Peter it says "dedicate your lives to Christ as Lord. Always be ready to defend your confidence in God when anyone asks you to explain it. However, make your defense with gentleness and respect." (1st Peter 3:15).

As a Christian, I know I am weak in this area, so I got "Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel and "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell, along with booklets by James Kennedy. These books are really good books to study so that you truly do have an answer for the hope you have in Jesus.

Then deep down, they don't really believe what they think!! The Bible says that we must be prepared to give an answer, by correctly dividing the word of truth, an to study to show thyself approved unto God. The Truth always has an answer!!

Because humans are very stupid. We prove everything in our lives except what is most important, our eternal salvation. We test our mates, our automobiles, even fruit in the produce section of the store, but let's just have faith in our religion. Go figure. Read this scripture I Thes 5:21

If you want to ask a simple question, then you can ask an ordinary person. If you want to ask a difficult question, then you need to ask someone who has had the training and education necessary for him/her to know the answer you want. You wouldn't ask your doctor to be a specialist in every possible branch of medicine, would you? You'd expect to be referred to someone else who has the specialized information you need. It's the same way with theology.

If their still in school then they are not totally prepared to answer. However, your questioning them should make them think about how they will present themselves in a mission situation.

It's the same thing as driving a car without knowing how to fix it. They have to have someone else do the hard part.

I'd like an example of what your saying.......... You give me a "proper knowledge" of Christianity and I'll give you the power of God.
