I'm confused about what my friend thinks of me. I've known him properly for about three months, and we generally hang around in a group. Sometimes I get the feeling he likes me. He looks at me and smiles at me a lot. He often sits next to me. If I'm talking to other people he often seems to be listening to what I'm saying, and sometimes joins in with the conversation, commenting on what I've said. He'll remember things I've said to him, or things I've said when he's around from weeks before. He'll always comes over and talk to me when he gets the chance, and sometimes when I'm talking to other people he'll hang around me, as if he wants to talk to me but doesn't have the chance to. He's generally quite shy, and doesn't give much away, so it's hard to tell what he's thinking. What signs should I be looking for? How can I tell whether it's just friendship he wants, or more?

Sounds to me like he might have a little crush. Guys are lazy, and wouldn't put in the extra effort unless they had a thing for somebody. Pay attention to the way he addresses you, if he gives you any pet names, hugs you, etc etc. Those are surefire signs. Now, if he acts like this to all the ladies, then maybe it is only friendship that he is seeking.

certainly sounds like he's keen! You could go straight in and ask him out on a date with just the two of you alone to see if he's keen. If he is it'll be a sure fire way to know! Then kiss him
