The best area for me to put a vent for my dryer is through my roof rather than the normal place, out the side of your house. Will this ruin my roof at all and what about snow, etc. getting into it?

You can do it but it's a bummer because you need to use a flashing cone to keep the roof from leaking and it will require attention from time to time. Don't worry about snow getting into it but if you ignore my advice and worry about it, simply install an elbow in the end of the pipe with the open end pointed away from the usual wind direction or a tee will do the same thing. Put hardware cloth over the openings to keep birds and other riff raff out of the dryer vent.

Yes you can, I lived in a house that was set up that way for four years. It had a 180 deg. elbow at the top to keep out water, etc. and heavy screen to keep out birds & wasps. It needed to be checked from time to time as it would get partially clogged with lint every few months. Some laundramats vent dozens of dryers through the roof.
