Magnesium is a good start - add the potassium just by eating bananas or taking a swig of molasses per day.
I find it almost impossible to believe that the medical community has not put 2 and 2 together and realized that the cause is muscles. It is likely that the cause is really in your back referring pain down, but I will let you learn and decide what to do. Read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. If you see a massage therapist have them read it also. You get faster results if you start with someone helping you that knows a bit about muscles.

I have restless legs syndrome and it's no picnic. What I have found that helps me most is getting deep tissue massage on the legs. This stops the spasms most effectively And usually lasts for several days. I also take muscle relaxants when the pain is severe. if you can find a good massage therapist in your area try this treatment to see if it helps you. Also you can ask your doctor what current medicines might be best for you.

I get it occasionally, mostly when i am very overtired. I have my daughter step on my legs sometimes, I also do stretches. I also heard iron helps. Also, drink a type of club soda that has quinine.

RLS is hell. Go to your doctor and get some medication. You will be glad you did. I have not found one over-the-counter remedy or natural remedy that works.
