There would have been NO action if the female was not in heat. Dogs are not wired to have sex unless the female is in oestrus. You can tell if she is because her genitals will be all puffy and she will leave drops of blood about. This is called the "rosy"period and you cannot miss it. Also, every male within miles who can escape will be at your door drooling and wagging their tails, completely oblivious to humans. Your girl is ALL they dream about!
When you walk her, if she has been leaving her droplets more often than usual, she has been working up to a heat. That is how the beeotch lets the boys know she is ready for action.
Usually, when a pair has sex, the male's penis has a spot in it that balloons out and stays in the female until she comes, then he is able to slide out. This can easily take at least an hour. That is why you often see two dogs locked and unable to separate. To attempt to do so, or pour cold water on them, is not only cruel, it is dangerous.
If she is pregnant, a few pounds should not make much of a difference in size. But her age could be very worrisome, she is no puppy and way beyond the normal breeding age. We usually retire our breeding females after 5 litters or 7 years of age, whichever comes first. (We breed very fine standard poodles. Maybe 3 or 4 litters a year (between 3 females) depending on how the "girls" are doing. And yes, we have been entertained many times by ... that doggie unable to separate thing. They look sooo sad! LOL
Since it takes only 60 days for the pups to be born, keep a close eye on your girl for a few days. Do they still want to be together? That is the teller. If your male cannot keep away from her, if he paces and whines and wants to be with her, you know she is in heat. He might go off his food even. The deep instinct of procreation is what rules him. She will show as much interest in him sexually also. Continue to be diligent to keep them apart.
Phone your vet. Besides keeping them apart, that is about the best thing you can do at this point, if you are worried. Then discuss your options with him. He knows what is best health wise.
If she IS pregnant, and you decide to abort, you will probably have a bit of time before she can be spayed afterwards. Only your vet can answer this one.

Hi there!
I understand and appreciate ur concern. Pretty much, a dog cant get pregnant if it is not on heat. You would know if she is on heat because girl dogs bleed like human women (only not on the same level!)
Your best bet would be to book both of your dogs into the vet to be de-sexed. Explain to your vet what happened and the vet will do preg tests on the female, as well as an ultrasound to be sure.
If by some chance ur min pin IS pregnant, then it would not be 100% safe for her to have the babies. Not only is the different sizing a matter, but as the dog is 12 years old, she is too old to have pups. (this is around 82 in human years!).
Just say, for example, she were to go through with the pregnancy, she would definitely have trouble giving birth and would likely need an emergency c-section and the pups may cause damage to her hips from the inside. As older dogs have a lessened immune system, an operation such as a c-section plus the stress of looking after pups in her retirement years (giving them so many nutrients from her body that she really cant spare anymore) will be detrimental to her health.
I hope I could help! =)

Depending on the amount of time since the mating took place you may ask your vet about a mismate shot to prevent the pregnancy. While the size difference is of concern, and the age of the female is a concern I have helped at the vets to deliver such miss matched sizes by C section. The main question here are what are you going to do with min pin/cocker mix puppies? There is a risk of pyometria with a mismate shot. But generally this would force the female to be spayed. There is also the possibility at her age her fertility is low and the breeding did not take.

Are you sure they were mating or was it just mounting behavior? Whenever they are intact male and female dogs, it's a good chance it could be mating. If she's pregnant, it's early enough in the pregnancy that most vets will be willing to spay her.
Get both dogs spayed and neutered! Do this as soon as possible. Your min pin is way too old to be having puppies, anyway. And your dogs will be healthier and have less behavior problems for it.

I would be just as concerned with the age of the min pin as to the difference in size. I strongly advise to have her spayed ASAP>

I wouldn't worry about the size, but I would worry about the fact she is 12.
I would take her to the vet, they would be able to tell if she is, and if itis safe
