Go see your orthodontist or dentist immediately. Something is wrong. When gums swell it can be a sign of gum disease, or gingivitis from improper brushing. Brushing can be tough when you are wearing braces, but it is essential to brush in circular motions at the point where gum meets tooth, and really scrub those areas and rinse well, it might help to use a good bacteria killing mouth wash after brushing. Gingivitis can cause pain and redness and swelling between teeth and around the teeth and bleeding gums and a whole host of serious health problems. Please go see your dentist or orthodontist as soon as possible.

If the gums look red and puffy and bleed easily then you probably have some form of gum disease. Unfortunately the answer is always the same... brush and floss. brush at least 2 times a day after meals and floss under your braces.

If you don't see any improvements then you should definitely see a dentist who can rule out other diseases which may be causing the swelling.

If you've got braces you should be seeing your dentist semi regularly so he/she should already have told you what you need to do to reduce the swelling.

In dental schools they routinely remove braces from patients who do not improve their oral hygiene, because braces can increase the destructiveness of gum disease.

This sounds like an infection or gum disease, though it may be attributable to irritation or allergy, see your dentist.
