The Kalashnikov came first. It was the German MP 44 assault rifle that was based on the AK 47.
Hitler was so anti-russian that he would not admit to the "similarities."

Assault Kallashnikov 1947 is AK-47
Kalashnikov came up with the idea for the AK-47 when he was in back of an ambulence being transported from wounds on the german / russian eastern front according to "Top Ten Assault Rifles", Military Channel. They are very similar in design, gas piston, the shortening of standard munitions, and innaccurate at longer ranges etc., and his idea probably did result from the MP-44, but not officially. You ask what assault rifle then finish your question with AR??? The M16 and AK47 are assault rifles.... An AR15 is not..... Its as if you asked us whether we like Buick or Mercury then ask us what Honda we prefer??? Anyways I think I get the idea.... An AR15 is more accurate hands down. And depending on the model or barrel its way more accurate than any AK could hope to be... Of course you cant get a 3 round burst AR15. - Well at least not without a huge paperwork hassle and that's even if your state allows it.... Why not get them both?? I have 4 AR15's and a couple of AK variants... Even though the AR15 is more accurate and built better the AK is fun to shoot... Both of these rifles use cheap ammo so that's a big plus.... Accurate??? I only shoot at 12 or 15 inch steel plates and silhouette targets and both rifle's are plenty of accurate for that to 75 and 100 yards....... Shooting little 1 inch holes in paper is lame -- besides that's not what either rifle was designed to do....

The weapon is based on the MP 44 however it was a very complicated weapon system to manufacture therefore at the time the only other semi automatic rifle was the American garland so the Russian took the working parts out of the garland and placed them into the MP 44 and came up with the AK series of weapons

They do look similar, but so do a lot of firearms. Kalashnikov based more design features from the M1 Garand than anything else. The main operating systems between the two are very similar.

yes a little..the magazine and gas piston..the M16 has more in common with the MP44. also the ammo is close to the AK's ammo..OK the AK didn't come first..the MP44 was first into battle..the AK wasn't used until 1956 in battle time to watch the history channel guys..The 47 in the AK47 stands for 1947..and the MP44 was designed in the early 40s..Hitler put a stop on gun design during the war..the MP44 was made with out Hitler approval, are half of you high, or what..the M1 has nothing in common with either weapon..a totally different gas system and feed mechanism..

Absolutely not! The AK-47 was a pure "throughbred" product of Russian genius and engineer Mikhail Kalashnikov.
In the contrary, it was the German MP 44 that took on the designs of the Kalashnikov.

Yes, but not just. Various weapons were studied like M1 Garand as well. Kalashnikov used different ideas and then adapted them to simplify design for mass production.
