Does anybody know how to make hamburger boats?

My son just loves his school's and wants me to make some. I remember having them as a child too but I can't find a recipe that looks anything like what I remember. The ones that I remember had kind of a creamy sauce like maybe there was cream of mushroom soup or something similar in it. All I can find online have tomato sauce and I know these don't have anything tomato in them.

Hamburger boats

2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 cup crashed crackers
1 egg
1 cup chopped onion
1 tbls. mustard
salt & pepper
2 cups grated cheese (what ever you like)

with your hands mix and squeeze all ingredience together, spread the mixture on buns and bake open faced at 350 c for 1/2 hour
