Since Americans have special days set aside for special events such as Vetrans Day, President's Day and Martin Luther King day, does anyone else believe it would only be proper to set aside the days for the birthdays of two very special men. Abramham Lincoln, who freed the slaves, and John F. Kennedy for the signing of the Civil Rights Bill?

Everyone remembers Dr. Martin Luther King who was great, but what about the men who were instrumental at making that dream come true? Wouldn't it be nice to show some extra respect for them as well?

There are people who do not recognize that maybe MLK was shot, but so was Lincoln and Kennedy for taking part in ending discrimination. That should also be considered as well.

uhhhhhh nope, got enough holidays for government bureaucrats to loaf on already, besides (sadly) nobody really gives any thought to what they are celebrating on these days. Just another day to go to the beach and have fun. America forgets its heroes.

Although it would be nice to honor President Kennedy, don't you suppose that we might find some other person, native born, of another race to honor?
We honor only 1 black man, no other race. How about the American Indian, the Chinese, the Japanese, all of the other races that are in this country that have no one representing what they have done for this country & are in no way honored. Surely, there is someone other than another white person that we could honor.

Lincoln didn't free the slaves. The Emancipation Proclaimation didn't affect Union-controlled territories.

The slaves were freed by the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which was passed after Lincoln was dead.

Lincoln had a day, but now they lumped it al into Presidents day. MLK was great only cause he got whacked so they made him a saint. IMHO, he was a commie rabble rouser. Just imagine, if he had lived, his family would have had to get real jobs instead of being hucksters and collecting donation in his memory.

Well the people you spoke about were only in power when those events happened. We will never know if someone else might have done things differently or not. You might as well give Bush credit for anything good that has happened during his administration's reign in Washington.(not that there has been much good happen during his reign)

And do you really think that either of them would care about that? Both men are remembered and respected...thats whats important.

And truly, how many people think about the honoree on the holiday?
