Buy a DSLR, Canon or Nikon are the best, the camera's not important, the lens is the main factor to good pictures. Only snag is that for wildlife you really need a 400mm or greater lens and Canons Lenses at that level go from around £850 for a fixed 400mm lens at f5.6 to £1100 for a 100-400mm right up to circa £4000 for a 400mm lens at f2.8 at anything higher the prices get really stupid, but the difference between the L series lenses and the normal stuff is so big it'll make your head spin.

Like most things - depends how deep your pockets are, pesonally i'd recommend the gear I use - a Canon EOS 30D with a battery grip to hold 2 batteries, and for wildlife I pair it up with a Canon EF 100-400 L IS USM lens. That'll give you 8.2Mp up to ISO 3200, the lens lets you work hand held even at 400mm without using a tripod thanks to image Stabilisation which is handy for wildlife. Sounds great?, unfortunately that little lot will set you back 2 grand - but - it'll produce stunning shots.
If you dont want to break the bank go for an EOS 350D or even a 300D if you can get a good secondhand one and mate that to a Sigma 50-500mm lens, that can be had for about a grand, less if you go for the 300D.
Your main problem is the lenses - for wildlife you need super telephoto and no matter who's lenses you go for they aren't cheap.
Ultimate best advice? buy a DSLR and hire some lenses till you find one that works best for you, there are places that will hire you just about any lens you care to mention.
A lot of people bang on about the Nikon vs Canon thing - its a bit like the mac vs pc thing - they're both equally capable and it all boils down to personal preference - although the Nikons are slightly more expensive - I went Canon for DSLR because I had Canon lenses from an old film SLR.

the best to take a wildlife picture is with a Digital SLR, reason is you are able to change various of lens (especially zoom lens) to bring the subject closer. As for the megapix get one which is 6 mega pix or higher. I strongly recommend either Nikon or Canon. You have more choice of lens on this 2 brand

It depends on your budget but:
If you can spend over £1000 then go for a Canon Digital SLR such as the 400D or higher with a 750-300mm IS lens. You'll get amazing image quality and the IS lenses will help you take shots without a tripod.
If you can spend less then £1000 then go for something with as big a zoom as possible (10x-12x), and image stabilisation. Panasonic do a range as do Canon. Look on www.dpreview.com for more details...

Any SLR camera will do the job. Digital or film. The main thing is you will definately need a long tele lens, 300mm and up. You will also need a good tripod since the tele lens is long and heavy that you will not be able to shoot handheld.
I would save money on buying a good digital slr canon 20d (used) and will invest in the lens side. It will break your bank account if you want Canon lens, Canon 300mm f2.8l for example will be in thousands of dollars. Go with third party lens like Sigma, Tokina...then you will save some money. The Sigma 50-500mm AF is not a bad choice. I used that lens for about 6 months and got great images. Good luck and shoot a lot of pictures. It is great to know someone who have the same hobby.

YOu need something with a big zoom and a tripod.
Kodak 612, 650, 712, 850
Canon S2i, S3i
Sony HC1 or HC2
All of these have 10 or 12X zooms.
Cheapest and smallest potential is the Kodak 875 5x Zoom $200
