It is legal in Texas. The parent must order the drink and then the waiter will serve it to the parent. From there the parent gives it to the minor.

I can say for sure it is leagle in the state of ohio because the parent is giving consent, i have been working in restaraunts for a while now, and i was too asking this question a while ago

to all those above stating that the restaraunt cant sevr the minor, they arent, they are serving the adult, the adult is the one who ha to order the drink, but after that the child of that parent and only the child of the parent, not their friends, can have the drink

Yes, it's legal. The parent orders it and gives it to the minor. It is also legal for the minor to consume liquor at their home ONLY. Doesn't apply to any other home even if the parents are there. Must be the minors home and the parents must be there and NO other minors are allowed to drink at somebody elses home.

It depends on what state you live in. I live in Ohio and it is legal there to get into bars if you are under 21 if your parent is with you and they can buy you a drink as long as you are with them too. In other states like Indiana however you can't even get into bars during the day if you are under 21 no matter who you are with.

Btw, I think this is a completely decent question- a parent should be able to serve their child a beer if they feel they want to.

It depends on the state. In FL, you can be arrested for giving your child an alcoholic beverage in a restaurant. In TX, it's perfectly legal.

It depended on the restaurant we were at when I was a minor.

Only if you live outside the us, otherwise, its giving a minor alchohol which you can go to jail for. they will charge you a fine, even if your son just holds your beer bottle.
its ok for your son to have a beer but dont do it in public because "the law" prohibits you.
in my family, children may have one glass of wine per month and champagne on new years

It does not matter where you live. Parents do not make the laws. A public establishment must not serve alcohol to minors. Period. And any parent who wold order alcohol and then pass it to their minor child is an idiot!

Yes according to the law a minor is not allowed to consume or have in possession. Possesssion through consumption is also a citable offense for minors. The probability of getting caught however is very low so take the risk if you want.
