If you are feeling sad or depressed, and it's been going on for more than two weeks, you should talk to your doctor. You may need to be on a medication for a while to bring your brain chemicals back into balance. It's not unusual for humans to feel sad occasionally, it's just not normal for it to last more than a couple of weeks, unless it involves a major life event, like death of a loved one. In addition to, or even instead of, medication (if the sadness is not severe) you can try scheduling something fun with friends or family. Make sure to excercise regularly, which helps depression. Eat a balanced diet and take a multivitamin. See a doctor if these things don't help, or it you are extremely depressed. You'll feel so much better if you will. Take care.

First you must be aware of the source of your sadness. Is it a loss? Is it a hormonal imbalance? Or brain chemical imbalance? Once you identify the source of the feeling, you must treat it accordingly. There is always a source for your sadness. Crying, writing, or talking to a trusted friend always helps, because it allows one to release some of the emotion in a healthy manner. What ever you do, do not drink or use drugs to numb the sadness, or pain. It only delays the process, and makes your path toward feeling content much longer.

If you are sad you can eat a hot fudge sundae in the tub while listening to your favorite music by candle light. If you are depressed you need a doctor's help.
