The most iconic has to be the Spitfire. But the best has to be the P-51 Mustang. The introduction of this superb aircraft with its ability to escort the B-17's into the heart of Germany and back again.Taking on the Luftwaffe in the air and on the ground, changed the course of the war in the air over Germany and saved the lives of many airman in the bomber fleets, by being there.

The ME 262 may were, had it been presented previously interior the conflict. The air conflict may were extra interior the favour of Germany because the ME262 outclassed another aeroplane both interior the Luftwaffe or blended Allied forces. It became, although, quite at chance of failure of more than a number of quite significant factors (brakes being a impressive one) and it became not in any respect presented in sufficient numbers to make any authentic effect. It became positively the most technologically greater, yet in words of average effect it really is in basic terms about nowhere. The P51 is positively between the superb. although; the Supermarine Spitfire and the Messcherschmit ME109 both tournament it with the ME109 very almost ahead of the Spitfire. The fighter battles over the south of england were commonly stricken by technique of the quick airtime ME109's ought to spend in British airspace earlier having to run for abode with low gasoline. Had they been able to land and refuel in the route of the united kingdom, it really is probably the conflict of england may were a good closer affair.

The German Messerschmit ME-262. It is the first fighter aircraft that used jet engines (note that all fighter aircraft used by all sides in WW-II were propeller driven). The ME-262 is so fast, that it was difficult to hit it with the Allied fighter plane's machine-gun volleys during aerial dog-fights. It is also difficult to hit with flak guns and cannons from the ground. However, since the Germans managed to produce only a few of them, plus the fact that they made their appearance toward the war's end, they were not a factor in turning the tides of war for the Germans.

Spitfire even German pilots would insist they had been shot down by spitfires when none were present because there was no shame in that. The Mustang was nothing special until they put a Spitfire engine into it and I think that says everything in itself. The Mustang never had a test like the Battle of Britain. The spitfire and Hurricanes did and showed what they could do.

Being British I should say the Spitfire but I love the P-51D Mustang. Cadillac of the sky! It has such graceful lines and it looks as though it floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. The RAF Museum in Hendon has a great example on display.

There are two contenders for this, the Spitfire and the Hurricane. However, the Hurricane had a slight edge on the Spitfire with manouverability, and could almost touch the sound barrier in n accelerated dive.

The ME 262, was the most advanced plane but fortunately ( depending what side you are on) entered the war too late. One year earlier would have made all the difference to the germans.

The Spitfire was a great plane but no fuel injection like the German planes .I agree the Mustang was also formidable ,did it not have an inverted V12 Packhard engine fitted ,I stand corrected if i am wrong.
