Answer: The Romans, upon percieveing the threat to Rome and Roman culture itself, would have done as they did in Masada or with any other self-righteous sub-culture that threatened to bring down their civilization.

Unfortunately we are not as practical as the Romans, largely because we inhereted the disease of their demise "Christianty". Now we must "love the enemy" and "repect all usurping savages by showing them the other cheek".

Rome was savage and corrupt and would have fallen with or without Christianity.
I do agree that we need to grow some balls and deal more harshly with this Islamic threat, but don't blame it on one sole religion. You can be a Christian and have some balls too.

The Romans were always on the lookout for large religious groups. Rome would have been quick to slaughter Muslims or the Muslims would have conquered Rome...easily.

I can see an angle to what you're saying - but we are where we are after learning from the mistakes of many of those civilizations - would you want to go back to the barbaric societies that existed back then when people were killed for almost no reasons (gladiators -rome, christian executions?)

Rome crushed the Jewish Revolt, because well, the jews revolted, not because the Jews were a threat to their civilization.
