In the Bible (the typical reference used regarding the beginning of man's history) the first "death", per se, was never mentioned, but the first murder was committed by Cain when he killed his brother Abel. Whether or not this was the first death, though, is uncertain. Blessings

so abel was.
Genesis 4:25
Adam lay with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, "God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him."
adam is obviously alive after Abel's death.

That distinction goes to Abel. His brother, Cain, killed him.
