the other day my friend and I were having lunch she began to
choke on a chicken bone.after quickly observing her got her to
keep coughing on her own. However that didn't work,I started to
use the Heimlich Maneuver on her with a few thrusts she started to
break wind as I compressed her stomach. Is this normal for when
the victim is choking? I don't recall reading about that one!

First, if she is coughing on her own, she doesn't need the Heimlich maneuver. When someone is moving air in and out of their lungs (coughing), the body will take care of itself. The Heimlich is for when she can no longer cough by herself.

Secondly, if you compress the colon (lower abdomen) suddenly, yes, gas will escape if it is there.

It could have been from that, or it might have just been time for her to pass gas anyway. Everyone does it many times per day. It's nothing to make a big deal about.

Just for future reference, you should never star the Heimlich until the person is completely unable to cough, breathe, talk, or pass any air whatsoever.

If you are choking to death, your body can do all kinds of strange things. You were pushing hard on her stomach so YES she could easily "break wind." So? If you're a friend you don't even mention it.
