I promise people, this isn't about me. It's for my friend because he doesn't believe you can get very sick from doing this. I know it's wrong. Thanks for the help.

There is no such thing as an absolute right or wrong. The things that we accept or don't accept are not decided by some law of nature, the are just arbitrary rules that were invented by the society we live in. There are third-world type of places where people ritualistically cut themselves purposely to create scars that have some type of social significance. Cutting to them is not associated with mental illness or anything negative. In our culture self mutilation is looked down on, probably because our society is heavily influenced by biblical scriptures and the bible specifically says that self mutilation is a sin in the eyes of God. There are all sorts of unhealthy ways people handle their problems you handle with cutting, but they handle it with drugs, alcohol, sex addiction, compulsive gambling, and whatever else. Asking if something is sick and wrong is going to get you the opinion of one person, and you would have to have a pretty high regard for that person if you are going to let their opinion determine how you live your life.

Yes. You can get an infection, staff infection, gange green, and tetanus{lock jaw} just to name a few. Depends on what you cut yourself with, what type of bacteria {or rust in the case of tetanus} and I suppose if it contained something like lead, you could get lead poisoning. You can also get sick from loss of blood, especially if your diabetic {because their blood doesn't clot the same as someone who isn't diabetic.} Go to Web MD and search lacerations /infections: or try tetanus and you should find related links from there. Lastly, if you are literally "cutting " yourself as a intention or by compulsion to relieve anxiety or stress, this in itself is a type of metal disorder{sickness} and should be treated by a psychiatric physician.

If you are talking about cutting yourself on purpose, you already have a disorder. I have a history of this, and it was because of held-in anger and guilt. Counseling helped with that.
You can get sick from any wound if it gets infected.

Absolutely. You can get an infection. If the item cutting you was rusty, you will likely get Tetnaus (a.k.a. lockjaw) which people typically have a shot to prevent, but you need the shot renewed if you are exposed to something that may have given you it (had you not had the preventative shot).

Well, are you talking about accidentally or purposefully? If it was accidental, you should make sure you have a tetanus shot. If you mean purposeful, then you should probably go to therapy. It's not mentally healthy for you to be doing that to yourself.
