The No is right but you went wrong after that. You should have said No but I would really like to know. Look extremely interested and listen intently. This question is only put to you because she thinks that you have no interest in what she says/thinks. Consider carefully what she has said before making any reply. A hasty reply or blank look could cost you dearly.

Sounds as if this could have been in the 'middle' of a conversation/discussion/argument?

Tone of voice makes a big difference to the intent of these or any other words.

Whatever the tone and intent you would appear to have at least one bridge to mend.

If the tone was kindly(as in enquiring) then maybe your wife was about to suggest a place to go on holiday.

If the tone was angry(as in frustrated) maybe you should just shut up and listen instead of interrupting before she has finished what she wanted to say.

If the tone was angry(as in accusational) then you better check your pockets etc for something that looks suspicious.

That was the wrong thing to say it made you sound too sarcastic and uncaring! Tell her that you'd love to know all her thoughts and feelings then massage her shoulders as she spills the beans - thus eliminating the guessing factor.
By the way if you were in the bedroom when she asked the question and didn't know the answer, you're on a slippery slope!

I believe she is thinking "do you have to always be cheesie and quote things from the bible" or "I wish we had sex before I married you so I would know not to bother" LOL! Only kidding man... I don't actually know... maybe you should ask her, or just say 'happy valentines day darling'

Hi Peter
I am not sure that I really want to know.
I think maybe you are better off not knowing too
I think some things should remain private, like dreams
( please don,t include me.)
Thanks

Perhaps she wanted you to start worrying about her.

Perhaps she just wanted to have sex with you
