She played the good witch in the 1979 remake of the wizard of oz, called the wiz starring diana ross and michael jackson. She's began singing in a time where race was a prevelant issue in American society, but because of her complextion she was accepted among white people. That's what I know from the top of my head, but I am sure you could find a web-site with her bio.. google it.
