What do you do when she does this? If she is getting ANY attention (good or bad/ a lot or a little) then it could be reinforcing the behavior. If you start acting like you don't care, then I bet she'll eventually stop. In the meantime (while your ignoring her foot/sock sniffing activities) give her other things to sniff (perfume or vanilla extract on a cotton ball).
You could make it a game. Find 3 to 5 different scents, put them on the cotton ball, then close each ball up in something like a baggie or even an old plastic Easter egg. Show her the new game (and do not mention a WORD about sniffing the socks and feet - try to pretend that issue does not exist). Show her the scents and encourage her to smell them. You can use words such as: yum, yucky, mm-mm, stinky, phew, nice, etc.
Then, leave the game out where she can explore it - and give her lots of attention for playing with it. (with adult supervision - of course!) Here is one warning though. If you try to redirect her to her new sniffing game when she goes for the socks....this is attention for smelling the socks and could backfire on you. She may refuse your game if she feels you are trying to get her to stop sniffing the socks. So when she sniffs the socks, or steals the socks...simply act like she isn't. Don't say a WORD! Just get some new socks like it's no big deal.
I think that when you give her lots of positive reinforcement for smelling other things (more appropriate things) and ZERO attention (even negative) for smelling the socks - she may stop. When you are trying to change a behavior, you have to realize that you cannot simply STOP the unwanted behavior, you have to REPLACE it w/ something else (AND figure out what is reinforcing the unwanted behavior as well). Good luck! I'd be interested to see what happens with this.

haha, that is very funny =] Maybe she likes the smell..? All kids are different. . when I was a kid I loved butter. . I would steal it out of the fridge. I wouldn't worry too much about and if you think something is wrong talk to her doctor :)

Sure, she is just discovering different smells and apparently she likes the smell of socks.

LOL It's probably just that she's not used to that particular odor, and finds it interesting.
