Nope thats wrong !!!
There is no punishment for us in islam for celeberating our birthdays !!! we don't celeberate our prophet's birthdays thats an other thing but for us there is not such order in quran not to celeberate it.........its just a joy for us to get togather and have fun..and there is nothing wrong with it.......tell your friend that islam doesn't forbid him from celeberating it .Btw islam does forbid a man to have a girlfriend, Why didn't he think of islam before having a Girlfreind?? Thats hypocricy !!
but if he doesn't have money to buy a gift , thats an other thing !!
Peace !

Hi Shel,I don't know about other Muslims but I do, my whole family does and so do alot of Muslim people I know.
We even celebrate Christmas we buy the kiddies gifts and say there from Santa .Maybe your b/f has no cash
or maybe he's got a surprise for you and doesn't
want to spoil it.No matter what the case may be you celebrate your b-day and he should buy you a gift!

Muslims do celebrate their birthdays, it is not against the religion, u r just happy with a new year in ur life has just begun, u won't do anything wrong, i think ur boy friend is overacting, he won't celebrate this day as he celebrating the feasts which are religious feasts, but he will be just happy to start a new year in his life, Islam motivates people to be happy as they are not making anything against the Islam teachings
That's all, This is my opinion as a muslim

Even the most dedicated muslims can celebrate birthdays. I have never heard in my life that muslims can't celebrate birthdays. Your boyfriend is probably a really cheap jerk.

He's getting away from giving you a gift. Islam doesn't forbid us form having birthdays. There were many actually in our family.

well... most of them do...
but he rather right... they are not supposed to celebrate it, but its not bad if they dont....
but its not like its against their religion or anything....
some just choose to celebrate the two Eids and thats it...
but its not bad to buy a present for someone.... if it was then all of them are going to u know where....
and u say hes muslim... thats pretty sad when u consider where hes gonna go...

he just does not want to buy you a gift. there is no such thing in muslim religion. Vice versa they are very generous and hospitable.

Well firstly he is a hypocrite, if he says its against his religion to not buy you a birthday present (no such rules) and then he dating (which is against the religion).
