The problem is that you have 0 or a number for the region. If you do put in a 0 then it may not play your region as the codec is missing, if you need to change then you may find you have to change it every time you play a disc from a different region.
This is further agrevated by the coding of the colour ie NTSC, PAL,
SECAM etc.
The best answer I use is to copy the disc using a cracker and normally delete the region when prompted on your computer, its quicker that sorting out the regions often.

Well, this comes down to a question of how good do you want the quality of your movies to be? Yes you can get codes to change the region, but you give up a clear picture in exchange. I've done it before and I was very unhappy with the results. The whole reason we use DVD instead of VHS is for the great digital quality advantage. DVD players are so cheap these days that you're better off going out and buying a new one.

Google your brand and model number + multiregional. You can "hack" it to play any region disk by pressing certain things on the remote...I've done this with success. All DVD players come out of the factory ready for anything, they are programmed in the country they're to be sold in.
You may notice that the colours are v. saturated after hacking your DVD. Reds and oranges particularly are too bright. Small price to pay, tho.

If you purchased the player in Australia then it is region 4. There are only several players made that are a universal player. They are also higher in price. You can call or email the manufacturer and see if your player is a universal player. Hope this will help you out.

You can buy 'hack's on ebay to make it multi-regional http://ebay.co.uk - they cost around £5....just type in 'hack' in the search box. (Most of the sellers have lists of the dvd player models.)
