God doesnt like to see us suffer, but in order for us to get experience and strength (and strength in faith) out of a bad situation, he lets us. It's his will. He has control.

What the pastor said was a lie. If you can accept it, God gives us suffering as a blessing of sorts. It strengthens us and helps us to put all of our reliance totally upon Him. It strengthens our faith. Suffering is likened to a blacksmith's fire. We are the sword, and the more the sword is put through the fire and hammered on, the stronger it becomes, and its quality is supreme.
Have you ever met a suffering Christian who was so happy, people thought he must be crazy? There was this pious Christian man who was diagnosed with cancer. The doctors only gave him a few months to live, but he was happy. People asked him why he was so happy, and he said it was because he knew that God was in control. His cancer went into remission and he lived for another 6 years! At that point, the cancer came back, and he said he was ready to go. His doctors offered him some medicine, but he refused, saying he was ready to go now. People like that give hope and faith to those who are suffering, and I think that's why God let him live a little longer.

In all fairness, I would have to hear the entire statement from the Pastor, before passing judgement on what he said.
I think this may just be symantics. Its not the will of God that anyone suffer, but it is necessary as long as we are in the flesh; God will never allow more than one can bear, however. Keep in mind also, that much of the suffering we go through, we bring on by ourselves. Many times we are our own worst enemy, ya know?

John's Gospel says
In the world you will have trouble.
Job suffered, God allowed it, but for a reason.
God works all things together for good, - this means even the sufferings we experience.
I have suffered much in my life, but as I look back, I have seen the hand that guided and planned. I have seen how I have been changed and transformed in suffering. I know that the Lord has not given me more than I could bear, as promised in His Word.
The secret to overcoming in tests and trials is to determine through the Lord's help to become better, not bitter.
I have seen God touch people's lives through my faith in the midst of suffering, and people have come to faith as a result.
I don't believe that God causes the suffering, but I believe He uses it, for His higher purpose.
In the story of Jospeh, what satan intended for evil, God turned it round for good.
I trust this will be of help to you.

I do not agree. As you stated it is God's Will, not our. All is for the Glory of God.
Example in John 9
Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind
1As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
3"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. 4As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

Paul, basically that is right. But there are times when we are messing up that God will put a stumbling block before us to get our attention in hopes that we will quit messing up. Scripture states that" God chastises those whom He loves" . Further that,"if a man doesn't chastise his child then he doesn't really love them". So if God chastises you LEARN something from it. So if you know you are messing up and God is letting it slide you are in deep trouble , REPENT!!!! swindled

IF you heard correctly, challenge this with the Pastor 1:1 and ask for chapter and verse. If he cannot produce such proof to your satisfaction, and will not retract his statement, find another church body...you are on the wrong track.

All things and events that occur in this universe, those we perceive as good and bad, are controlled by a totally sovereign God. If you say something occurs that is not in God's will, you strip Him of His sovereignty.
