Sounds like it. One of the test that they do to figure out if you have inflamed gallblader is to lay you down, take a large breath in and hold it, dig your fingers sort of under your ribs, and exhale. If its your gallbladder you will feel a lot of pain. Its call the Murphy's Sign.

If not, I bet you its a pulled muscle or random ache of the ribs and cartilage there.

I've had a dull ache directly below my rib cage, right side, in-line with my nipple for a few years. It is not a superficial pain, but a deeper ache. Fortunately it has diminished greatly within the last year.

This ache has co-incited with a hip muscle imbalance I received from numerous bike accidents and work that involved heavy lifting. It is my belief (and that of my physical therapist) that this imbalance has thrown off other muscle groups as well.

It could be very well that your abdominal diaphragm muscles are out of whack, as I believe that is what I've experienced.

The human body will compensate for a muscular dysfunction by putting the load onto other muscles. So where you may have originally pulled or otherwise injured (say your lower back) it's your abdominal muscles that may end up being your source of long term problem.

An orthopedist may be able to help. Of course you should see your general practitioner first. Barring any other pathology he will more than likely refer you to an ortho, or maybe straight to physical therapy.

Regarding your gallbladder; I have two friends who have had gallbladder problems, and from what I gather you would know if your gallbladder was acting up... from the significant pain...

Good luck. Go see your doc.

The gall bladder has a tendency to radiate pain into the right upper back as well. Still, you could have gallbladder problems developing, or perhaps an enlarged liver.
I would see a doctor and get some tests done.

If it is muscles (the pain from or referred pain) The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies can teach you about it and how to help yourself make it go away. (75% success rate)
Quick relief - see a massage therapist.

If it is related to the gallbladder the problem is almost always coming from the liver. Things like turmeric and grapefruit seed oil help clean it out.
Hopefully this helps.

Could be gallbladder or liver, or a muscular problem. If it is persistent, go to the doctor. Only they can tell for sure.

Yes, it very well might be. I had a gallbladder attack a few years ago, it was rather unpleasant. I would seek medical attention for it, before it worsens. You don't want it to rupture.

Yes, it sure could be. I had mine removed years ago. It was full of stones. See your doctor regardless.
