Crohn's Disease CAN be very serious if not controlled properly with medication and diet. My sister became extremely ill, but had surgery and now she is completely fine. It is an illness that one will always have, but there is no reason why he or she cannot live a normal life. With a good doctor, they can find the right medications to control the symptoms. Crohn's typically effects both the large and the small intestines and causes inflammation and ulcers in the intestines.

A good website is www.ccfa.org. Be very supportive and understanding. Diet is very important and knowledge is key to understanding the disease. It may take several months to find the right combination of medications or options, but eventually something will work to help control the symptoms.

It's not terminal.
Your Friend will have to go to the bathroom a lot, and have cramping and painful bowell movements.

Be supportive, and understand that one day s/he may feel wonderful, and the next day they are literally "pooped out".
It's an exhausting disease.

When she has flare-ups, she won't go out for meals socially.
When you eat, within minutes you have to go to the bathroom.

It's very uncomfortable, not much talked about, embarassing, gassy, and you feel like poop.

Be supportive and if you and your friend have plans and she cannot make it last minute, understand it's not her faul5t, it's the disease. She needs her bathroom and rest.

It's hard to live an active social life, because life revolves around food, which is limited for someone battling the Disease.
I don't know if just how it's spelled.

do a search on Ulcerative Colitis.

there are medical treatments.
pills, and surgery, surgery is the last option.

your friend can live a good happy life, as long as she has supportive understanding friends like you who care!!!

you are so kind!

my ex-husband had this disease since he was 12.he is now 27. he battled with this disease quite often, quite a few surgeries to try to expand the bowel. eventual about 3-4 years ago he ended up having surgery to remove the largely inflamed portion of his bowel and they attached a colostomy bag which collects his bodily waste. since then he is the best health that he has been in in his life. i advise you to become a good support base for your friend. learn about this disease and be there for him/her. they will need/appreciate the support

No, it is not a terminal disease. It is spelled "Crohn's disease" so you can probably find many websites that discuss it. All I know that it is a disease of the digestive tract, sufferers have a restricted diet and it is very painful during flare-ups.

No, I would not want to remember that I am the instrument of my friend's death by letting him/her commit suicide just to escape from pain even if it would mean only one day left for him/her. Why? It is because no one is allowed to take anothers life or suggest to end ones life. Natural death is the best way even if the sickness is incurable and painful. Everyone must wait for the right time to leave this world and go to wjhere one wants to go after his/her death. God is the author of life and everyone has to wait for God's own time. Hope in God and trust in his saving Word.

Crohn's can be serious but generally not considered terminal. It's more serious and damaging than irritable bowel and related to ulcerative colitis. It generally involves relapses and remissions and some people have little trouble while others can be very sick.Check out this link: http://www.medicinenet.com/crohns_disease/article.htm#what

No it is not, but it is very difficult to live with. You do not know when you are going to have an attack, and it is embarrassing to have to keep going to the bathroom. You have to take this big horse pills three times a day for the rest of your life. The biggest risk is dehydration from the diarrhea.

Tell your friend to hang in there.

It's not terminal but it can be life threatening if proper treatment isn't received. It's a chronic condition that s/he will have to deal with forever, altho there are promising experimental treatments.

it is terminal in the way that it is a life-long illness, but it doesn't kill a person. http://www.crohnsonline.com/?OVRAW=crohn's%20disease&OVKEY=crohns%20disease&OVMTC=standard
