My cat is not really a kitten not really an adult, someone dumped him outside our apartment so I took him in. He screams all night long and I cant stand it. He has food, water, kitty box everything. But he just sits in the hallway screaming. He keeps waking up my son, and my hubby and I cant sleep. I tried keeping him awake all day (someone told me to) but it dosent matter. What can I do???

I hear ya! My cat is a boy, neutered, and five years old! He continually meows at random hours of the night and wont stop (he is indoor only, and we live in an apartment) I dont understand... He always has food, water, toys, a condo, a scratching post, we cuddle with him, play with him, yet its not enough! From 3am-6am he whines and meows non-stop and even in your face! Im making the assumption that he is awake (wanting to play) and he expects us to get up and do as he pleases (this is my assumption since he sleeps all day while we are at work)! Ive been trying to figure out a method to get him to chill out (he is a very very very vocal cat naturally)! Take him to the vet for a checkup (if he isnt up to date already) maybe he is experience some discomfort (digestive or bladder issues) Has he been neutered? Otherwise best of luck... Sorry I couldnt be more help since I am a subject to the same problem!

Hi there, this sounds like a horrible problem, I hope I can help a little.

One possibility to consider is that this behaviour may well be related to whatever happened to him before he was dumped on your doorstep; trauma, either emotional or physical or both.

Since you've already tried keeping him awake during the day and found it makes no difference I would hazard a guess that this is something to do with how he reacts to nighttime. Do you keep him out of your bedrooms during the night? If so, it could simply be separation anxiety.

Not an easy one to cure! We have an indoor cat - this is because she needs a special diet and if she was an indoor/outdoor cat like our others that just wouldn't be manageable. As she is indoor, she is more needy of our company than the others. She has a BIG nighttime howling habit!!!

She has access to our bedroom for part at least of the night. We feed her just before we go to bed and then have a can of food covered up on the dressing table, on some paper with a fork at the side, so that if she comes and wakes us up in the night we can sleepwalk (almost literally!) to her food and dish some more out for her.

Generally speaking, we have found that her having access most of the night to our bedroom does reduce the howling. If she is being particularly energetic we do sometimes put her in our office for the last part of the night, on her favourite chair, and try to ignore the howling so that we that can get a bit of kip! We've tried sometimes leaving a light on for her when we put her in there but it doesn't seem to make any difference either way.

Generally, the advantage of her having access to the bedroom at night is that once she has fed (usually two to three times in the night!) she will then go to sleep if we pet her.

Another thought - I've never heard of a cat being afraid of the dark but it may just be worth trying to leave a side light on somewhere for your cat and see if that makes a difference.

Finally, he might just be bored and want you all to wake up and play with him. Obviously not an option as you need your kip! It may be worth leaving some toys out for him - they don't have to be hugely expensive, ours love chasing screwed up balls of paper around!

Good on you for adopting this cat, it is great to know that there are kind hearted people in this world who will take in an abandoned animal. I hope you manage to solve this problem, best of luck to you all.

I even have an ocicat. those are area siamese. He likes to "sing" as nicely at evening, and he's fixed. quite some the time the "oriental" breeds will "sing" via fact they're bored. in case you play vigorously with him 15 minutes earlier mattress time, like get him to chase a fave toy or feather wand or some thing of the like, he would desire to start to cool down. Or get him a chum, like somebody suggested. in the event that they have a playmate, that actual helps. How previous is he? As they become previous they do cool down, although mine nonetheless thinks that 5 am is a good time to belt out a music for me. he's 3.

it could be in heat and you need to get it fixed. Or it could be really lonely? Do you let him have the chance to sleep with you? Our kitty sleeps with us and she is good. The first night or so, she was a bit fiest, but she settled down.

That's really sad. It'll probably get over it just with time. It's also at an age where it still needs to play so you might want to get some kind of ball or string or something for it.

Might be because theres a female in heat nearby and he wants out. Get him fixed.

Is he fixed (neutered)? If not, get him neutered ASAP and that will go a long way to calming him down.

are you sure that 'he' is not really a 'she'?
I think that it may be a female in heat. They do that..

Regardless of the gender, having it 'fixed' would help.

if the cat is sticking up his butt then he or she is in heat which means it needs to be mated wit another cat chances are it will get pregnant if its girl. or u can get it neutered.
