We "rescued" an underweight puppy from a breeder as I feared he would just dwindle away to nothing - when we brought him home he used to tremble after food and we found that if we fed him smaller amounts, more often, it stopped him trembling. It appears to be some kind of "rush". It's a bit like an adrenaline rush and it causes them to shake.
Of course he could also be cold! The breed is naturally prone to be cold.
If this is the only time he is shaking though then try feeding the smaller amounts and feed him in a warm spot - next to a radiator for example. Also consider changing his diet to something low in protein/carbs as they give more energy and this can add to the "adrenaline" rush.
Make sure if you are feeding him tinned food that it is not cold - straight out of the fridge or a cold store. If he is on biscuits maybe add a drop of warm water to the biscuits.
You would prefer to eat nice warm porridge than a grapefruit for breakfast on a cold morning, wouldn't you ?
Feeding "cold" food will make him colder..........
Best of luck

I have a Chihuahua as well. They are breed that shakes and trembles. They can do it at any time. They do it because they are unhappy or mad. Not because they are cold or scared. Mine shakes the most when he knows I am about the leave the house. He will stare at me and sit and shake. It is a typical characteristic of a Chihuahua. So have no worries. The breed is a different one, but a great one. Hope I made you feel better. Take care!

It's quite possible that he IS cold. Digesting food requires energy and his body may be using the greater amount of energy for digestion rather than heating.
Changing his food to a higher quality diet may help. Pedigree typically contains too many carbohydrates (which dogs do not need) and many sugars.
Good luck!

are you giving him small bite food?.. does he eat quickly? as small dogs sometimes eat too quickly and it gets stuck in the asophicas and take a minute or two to pass into the digestive system so this can cause this trembling

He's a chihuahua, so that is just part of their temperament. They have a thin coat so they are cold. When he does this, rub your hands together so they are warm and pet him.

they tremble. some do it all the time some don't. but really...it's quite normal for a toy dog to shudder like they're cold.

They haven't got a lot of coat, so he's probably genuinely cold! I have had many dogs and cold is usually the cause.
