I have this 5 year old dog who had her heat cycle back near the end of December, beginning of January. Her teats well developed but not hard, her stomach hangs lower, she is getting fatter. We also have 6 month old male dog who hasn't fixed yet. The female dog hasn't really acted differently, she maybe a tiny bit more aggressive toward other dogs, but she has always growled at them when she doesn't want them near her, and she is eating everything in sight.

I was wondering what could possibly be wrong with her?

She may be pregnant. Males can breed after 6 months, but I have heard of males fathering a litter as early as 4 months. I would take her to the vet and have them check her out.

It's hard to imagine a six month old male impregnanting her, but it could happen. You should consider having both animals fixed if you don't plan on responsible breeding.

If she is that uncomfortable (change in personality is evident) then it's time for a vet visit. Heat cycles are very hard on the dog's body, and require a lot of energy.

While you are waiting to get in to see the vet with her, make sure you don't leave both unaltered dogs alone, at all, ever. They will eventually mate if you do not have them altered and leave them alone, whether it's today or two years from now. (You can visit your local humane society to see how many unwanted pets are already alive, before considering adding more).

Food for thought. I hope your girl is okay!

And pregnancy hasn't crossed your mind? Why do you have a five year old dog who isn't spayed? You should take them both right away. Vets do spay and neuter pregnant or not. It will cost more as there is more blood being supplied to the uterus right now. There are more blood vessels to tie off now. I really feel this was very careless. Please take them to the vet right away. If you live in the U.S. many states have low cost spay-neuter programs. In our state we have VSNIP. It pays for your aniamals to be spayed and neutered and all first shots. They don't care if you have one or ten. You must be of certain income guidelines and then only pay $10. New Hampshire has had this program for 12 years now and they say the euthanasia rate has gone down 85%.Thats incredible. Go today.

well ahe maybe pregent whens the last time she was at the vet or it could be just simply that shes get older. if your puting wet dog food on it that maybe the problem or this worked for me. take a bowl a pretty big one fill it with food all the way to the top then just let her eat soner or later she will start to feel really full and then might start to fell sick so put her outside right away and then she might think this is going to hapen evry time so ahe might eat less that waht i did to my choclate lab and he still eats like a horse never swolling but dosent eat as much as for the teats i have to think about that one email me at sportsgirlracer@yahoo.com for more info.

She is going into middle age and becoming a little more moody. I would check with your vet to make sure there isn't anything wrong. Also, have you look into the designer pet underwear that www.savannahsmilespetique.com has out for female pets. I use them alot for my yorkie.

You should be expecting puppys soon.
63-65 days is about average.
