Do some research. There are only around 7 distilleries still in operation in KY. Check the county/city where that bottle came from in KY. then check for distilleries in that city still in operation or in operation in the last 5-20 yrs in that area. Some distilleries produce more than 1 alcohol. I've never heard of it personally (but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.) , but it may be an export only (sold only outside the US) as a marketing thing. Also make sure it doesn't say Straight Kentucky bourbon style.... the style word is the kicker which means it can be made anywhere in the world. like champaign and champaign style.

I recommend not opening it and saving it, mainly because most bourbons/whiskies/alcohols aren't on the market for much longer than 10-20 yrs unless they have a distillery. And there is no John Lee bourbon distillery that i've ever heard of.

Striaght Kentucky Bourbon can only be labeled that way if it was made in Kentucky. Just like Champagne can only be called Champagne if it comes from the Champagne region in France.

I answered a question the other day that asked readers opinions about John Lee. I went to serveral reputable site about Kentucky Bourbons and could not find it listed. I do know that there are personal/private reserves out there that are not marketed. These are extremely small batches made for very special ocassions or very important prominent people/families.

Being a Kentucky Bourbon girl, I have taken an interest into finding out what John Lee is. So far Im not finding much. If you look at the bottle is there anywhere on it that says where it was distilled besides being imported from the U.S. It also could be a brand that is not marketed in the U.S. but for European sale. Bourbon is distilled in Loretto, KY, Frankfort, KY, Versailles, KY, Lawrenceburg, KY, Bardstown, KY, and Clermont, KY. But those are major Bourbon distilleries that also distill other brands.
