Arabic and Hebrew are very similar languages, they may be quite different today but in the biblical times the resemblance was astonishing and one only wonders whether these two come from the same root language or if one derived from the other ???

As far as I know, Hebrew and Arabic came from the language which was spoken by their father, Abraham. He spoke Chaldean, which originated somewhere in Iraq. They are similar because of this root, they are different because of the separation over time...I would imagine that Arabic would have more ancient Egyptian influence since Ishmael's mother was an Egyptian slave woman.

Hebrew is believed to be far older. They are related languages, and scholars believe they developed parallel and, at times, independently, with Hebrew most probably being the earlier language.

Not sure on the answer...but I would suggest that you research the aramaic language...This was also a language spoken in the region. This might give you the answer as to which one came first.

Neither. They both derived from possible a common central Semetic origin, but developed from that separately.
