You can hibernate without running off to the woods. Tell your friends you need some time out and don't answer the phone. It's also a good way to see who your true friends are and u get so much more done... then reap the rewards of productivity. We grow best when we're alone and that's why people who are in long term relationships with no space, get messed up in the head and often ruin their own lives and each others. Space is good.

I am constantly reassessing my life. It's called growing, and is completely natural. As far as hibernating from people, this too is normal. There are times you just want to be alone. If you find yourself going weeks and weeks with no human contact you may be depressed. If it's just a few days, don't sweat it.

Good for you. It is good to take some time out every once in a while and do things for you. Reassess on!

It is healthy to perform a reality check on where you are and where you want to be in a given time. However, don't obsess on this train of thought. Focus on the now and enjoy life's every moment. If not, it will pass you by leaving you on the side as a spectator. Hibernating or hiding from people will not help your cause at all. Instead, it is through friends, family and other people that help bring focus and purpose to your life. Please, get involved.

It's perfect! I think that people with a midlife crisis have just let themselves drift through life, all of a sudden they then realise that there is so much they'd rather have done & then it's too late!
So, have fun hibernating, re-charge your batteries & then go for the changes you feel that need to be done! :)

It depends on how long this hibernation cycle lasts. If you're concerned enough to ask, I think you'll be fine. Time by yourself is never a terrible thing and most of us crave it from time to time.

Sometimes it is a good thing just to hide away from the world..have a bit of peace and think about what is going on in your life.

Trixie ... I agree. There are many things about life that cannot be fixed/corrected, but that doesn't mean you should have to tolerate these problems. THAT is why some people prefer to live somewhat alone in mountainous areas or in locations with extremely cold climates: to get away from everyone else.

So long as you don't drop your responsibilities.
People who run away from kids to "find themselves" are cowards.
If you don't have kids relying on you then FINE!
Find a nice cabin in the mountains, bring a few good books, sleep a lot, and go for long hikes. The answers will come.
